SCAM!
Deaf lottery: I'm the next in line for $500,000. I don't think so!
PLEASE, PLEASE ignore the E-mail you get about winning! Do not give your personal info (address, bank account number, etc.) to anyone you do not know! You can be at risk for identity theft! Do not deposit a check from this lottery! Do not use the money!! Check & money is NOT REAL!! You will have to pay back the money you use from this check!! Inform your deaf friends!!
What to do if you already gave information or took the check:
1. DO NOT DEPOSIT THE CHECK: Don't spend any $$ at all!!
2. IF YOU DEPOSITED THE CHECK: Inform the bank that the check is part of a scam and $$ should be taken out of your account. Return anything you bought!!
3. If you provided any account # to a bank institution, close that account immediately and open a new account.
4. Follow the steps in the website about identity theft: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/idtheft/idt07.shtm
5. Save all evidence - Emails, Fed Ex package, etc.
6. Contact the police/Attorney General to let them know about the scam & what information you gave away, what you have, what you did, etc.
7. Tell your friend(s) to be aware of the scam. Make sure your friends are safe from this!
