Hello PSAD GPC Members and Friends,

I received this request to send out to you to be aware of the very serious situation with our beloved Valley View Assisted Living for the Deaf located in Media. We, PSAD GPC supports these darling Senior Citizens every year with our annual Lawn Fete and annual Holiday Party. Without our support, there is nothing left for them... we give them our hearts and pride.
Please come on out to the meeting to hear all about this. Ms. April Nelson, our beloved GPC member will be sharing the information. Do not miss this! Think of your loved family & friends who are currently living in "their home" and your future.

Much Regards & Hope to see you all Saturday - Rain or Shine!
Evy Williams
PSAD GPC Secretary

Email from April Nelson:

April here...

This is to inform all of you of a bad situation happening at Valley View...
Due to a series of licensing/financing problems between Elwyn and the State...which is too complicated for me to try to explain in detail on this email ...basically this problem started in 2009...for 3 years there has been a lot of changes in agreements etc....and the state had changes of people in power in change of various depts like Dept of Public welfare...Office of Long Term Living....Governor of PA....as well has recent mandate for budgetary cuts of 20% etc...

What has happened is... They have decided not to renew VV s license effective 3/31.
That is next week Saturday!! Last Monday we got word that State is extending it (dont know for how long!) and working with Delaware County Office Service for the the Aging to arrange 'alternative 'transition'.

To us this means closing the Valley View is definite and the State plans to put the deaf aged clients in places that have empty beds to house them. They are not taking in consideration of communication needs etc etc. We want to make sure that they keep the Deaf Program/Group together. If the must move them to a place that meets all of the states rules, then they must move them all together. To place them all in different places will be tragic. Communication isolation is a form of mental abuse.

We plan to post important information needed on facebook and twitter etc by friday. In it will be a detailed platform to help all of you "know what to say".

It will give you phone numbers you can call....emails addresses so you can write if you wish. Phone calls are said to be more effective. Put your video phones to work!! It will be a mind blowing experience for them!!

Please be brief and to point. If you have a family member or friend who were in or who is in Valley View say so.

Please come to Phila Chapter mtg at PSD this Sat at 10:30. Find out more about what is being planned.
