DRAWING: ARCHITECTURE AS STRUCTURE
July 16, 17, 18 (Mon - Wed)
10am - 5pm
Instructor: Wendy Welch
This workshop shifts from drawing the interior of a room and a view from a window as you think you see it, to creating abstracted architectural compositions based on Russian constructivist drawings. Other projects include using photographs and collage as source materials; constructing a 3-dimensional architectural model to make a drawing based on this structure, and using actual architectural 'blue prints' will be used as a point of departure. Workshop is comprised of hands-on exercises, critiques and visual presentations of artists doing related work. Artists discussed include: Kevin Appel, Toba Khedoori, Julie Mehretu and Los Carpinteros.
Tuition: $250.00 (includes 18 hours of instruction and two optional studio days, Thursday & Friday )
Material Fee: $15 for paper

PRINTMAKING: WATERLESS LITHOGRAPHY
 July 16 - 20 Mon - Fri, 10am - 5pm
Waterless lithography is a new printmaking process developed in Canada. It offers the visual qualities of traditional lithography without its inherent complications, while eliminating a variety of toxic materials. Participants will be taken step-by-step through the process to print a small edition of black on white prints, followed by an introduction to multi-plate, color printing. The velvety blacks of the lithographic medium will be explored, along with the rich textures and varied coloration often associated with this versatile medium. Imagery will be added directly to the plate, or from original to photocopy and then transferred to the plate. A wide array of drawing and mark-making materials will be demonstrated, along with plate preparation, inking, and the pulling of the prints on the press. The week long course allows time for lots of experimentation along with individual guidance in composition and color. This workshop is appropriate for beginners and more advanced printmakers.
Instructor: Jenn Robins
Tuition: $395.00 (30 hrs)
Material fee: $55 (includes ALL materials needed for this week long workshop!)
