Senior Holistic Living
Greetings!

The Caregiver Hour has a special treat in store for the show on Monday, August 9th.  I'll be interviewing American Idol Season 8 finalist Scott MacIntyre!

Scott MacIntyreScott is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician who plays the piano, guitar, bass and drums.

Visually impaired since birth, the 24-year-old had to adjust and enlist life skills to create a meaningful and purposeful life. Similarly, seniors with impaired sight have to rely on inner strength, resources and caregivers to make adaptations.

Scott will also perform and speak at the 4th Annual Tea for Tots luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 15th to benefit Lighthouse of Pinellas, a non-profit agency serving individuals who have low or no vision in Pinellas County.

Don't forget to tune into The Caregiver Hour radio show on Mondays from 11am to 12pm.  Listen live, and phone in your questions to 877-897-8255.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Be well,

Making Your Home Senior Friendly
The value of simple, yet important, changes to your home

Suburban homeOne of our greatest fears as we grow older is the prospect that one day we may have to leave our home.

Our home is our security. In our home we decide what and when to eat, the time we go to bed, and who visits. The control we wield in our home is the source of our independence, dignity and quality of life.

Although a comfortable home has obvious benefits, there is a more practical matter for caregivers to consider: safety.

We generally don't think of our homes as dangerous places, but the statistics prove otherwise. Among older adults, falls are a leading cause of injury-related deaths and the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma.

The culprits may be seemingly harmless features we've
lived with for decades, such as loose throw rugs, poor lighting,
limited handrails, slippery surfaces in the kitchen and bathrooms,
or awkward access to shower stalls and bathtubs. Taking a fresh look at your living arrangements can help eliminate risks.
