Enhancing Educational Opportunities and School Choice |
New Jersey Community Capital helps build sustainable, healthy communities by supporting neighborhood stabilization projects that preserve housing stock, construct affordable housing, develop commercial revitalization ventures, and create innovative educational facilities. Recently, New Jersey Community Capital's role in expanding quality educational options for children in underserved communities has put the organization in the spotlight as the go-to financial institution for charter school facilities financing in New Jersey.
New Jersey Community Capital manages an active portfolio of over $22 million in charter school loans and has played a direct role in advancing the financing for 19 different charter school campuses since 2004. This portfolio is managed by New Jersey Community Capital's lending department whose energy, attention-to-detail, and hard work are a big reason why New Jersey Community Capital recently surpassed $110 million in development costs leveraged for the expansion of charter schools across the state. An impressive milestone that highlights the organization's commitment to enhancing educational choice in New Jersey and the expertise of NJCC's lending team to make it happen.

One of New Jersey Community Capital's (NJCC) proudest achievements is the long-term relationships that the organization has established with many of its community development partners. In 2004, NJCC began offering facilities financing to charter schools, seeing the need for more quality educational options for children in underserved communities. Now, just six years later, promoting high quality charter schools is a critical element in NJCC's sustainable community development efforts. The organization has forged several on-going partnerships with charter schools to help them manage their growth.
 "It's gratifying to witness the charter schools that came to us for their initial acquisition loans flourish and be so successful that they want to expand their facilities to reach more children in the community," said Wayne T. Meyer, President of New Jersey Community Capital. "Most have waiting lists pages long. We are proud to be able to help these superior schools expand their facilities so they can provide more educational opportunities to children."
One example of NJCC's long-term partnership with a school is the highly-acclaimed TEAM Academy Charter School in Newark. TEAM Academy started in 2002 as a class of 80 children holding class in a cramped hallway and has grown into a network of four high-performing schools serving over 1,000 students with plans to expand even further. TEAM Academy's innovative approach to education is based on one simple premise - that every student has the potential to be extraordinary and accomplish remarkable things. It drives their every decision and choice. Nothing less than high academic and behavioral standards are accepted. And this innovative approach to education is working. TEAM Academy is yielding exceptional results for its students, who are moving their community forward through academic achievement.
