Crystal River, Florida - August 20, 2010 - After much discussion and debate the State of Florida has announced and finalized the Florida Energy Star Residential HVAC Rebate Program-nicknamed by many as the AC Cash For Clunkers Rebate. According to Progress Energy, in your average Florida home, heating and cooling represents 42% of the energy used. Improving your home's HVAC is the greatest opportunity to cut back and save on your utility bill. The State has allocated $15 million in Stimulus Money to fund this program.
Qualified homeowners can receive a rebate of $1,500.00. The program begins on Monday, August 30, 2010 and runs through December 31, 2010 or when the funds run out; whichever comes first. Unlike the Energy Star rebates for appliances earlier this year - this rebate does not require a reservation.
What is very exciting about this is you can combine this with the Federal Tax Credit, which is a savings up to $1,500.00 on qualifying products, and Power Company Rebates where applicable, substantially increasing the savings on a new energy efficient system.
"Add to that, Carrier's Fall Cool Choice Rebates begins on September 1st, which is a savings up to $1,250.00 on qualifying products and the potential is $4,500.00 in savings," David Hutchins, Bay Area Air Conditioning and Heating. "If you have entertained the idea of upgrading you Air Conditioner, the best time to do so - just got better! To sound cliché - this really is the deal of a lifetime," he added.
"It's for people whose systems are on their last legs, and who are looking to cut their energy costs," Brenda Buchan, chief analyst with the Governor's Energy Office in Tallahassee.
There are certain requirements and details, such as the homeowner must have their ductwork inspected for leakage. Florid Power and Light estimates that two-thirds of all homes in Florida have undetected leaks-one of the biggest sources of wasted energy. "Once inspected, there are products available that can repair these leaks, bringing the home owner in line with the State's requirements," said Hutchins.
