MAP in the USA

According to new Census Bureau reports, over 25 million children in the United States go hungry on a daily basis. In addition, every school day, around 7,000 students drop out of school nationwide. (Alliance for Excellence Education)

In 2011, MAP spent over $50,000 teaming up with various schools and community organizations in California and Virginia providing food, basic needs and supplemental programs to help students and teens get the proper support and education. Your support helps them stay in school and flourish as healthy young adults which is an essential means to eliminating poverty.

In 2011, with approval and an OFAC permit, MAP began its work in Iran. UNICEF estimates over 1.5 million Iranian children live in orphanages. MAP strives to help these children thrive into healthy, independent and productive adults.

We spent over $60,000 supporting orphaned and impoverished children in Iran through the following projects.

Shahid Shojaie Orphanage: Home to over 20 orphaned girls in Tehran.(Part of this project is still in progress)

  • Constructing and furnishing an addition to the facility to create a dedicated computer room and additional space for the girls.
  • Thanks to a grant from Unique Zan Foundation, MAP has purchased computers and is providing computer education to these children.
  • Building and renovating the bathroom and washing facilities for the children.
  • Repairing the plumbing in the kitchen.
  • Painting the entire facility.

Farkhondeh Home & Shelter: A care center in Tehran for abandoned children with mental and physical disabilities.

Providing on-going rehabilitation and occupational therapy for the children. Doctors have advised us that occupational therapy can help 40% of these children to live functionally independent lives. Our goal is to help these children learn and become independent adults.

Handicapped Children in Kerman:

MAP is providing health insurance for handicapped children in Kerman. These children are very poor and on a waiting list to enter a care facility. These funds help support their much needed and critical medical care.

MAP in Cambodia

According to UNICEF, over 30% of the population in Cambodia live on $1 a day and sadly 14% of children do not live past the age of 5.

MAP spent over $64,000 this year supporting children in Cambodia; helping them with programs that foster their development to become successful adults.

In January 2011, MAP Board Members visited Cambodia and first hand experienced the devastating poverty in this country by visiting the slums, dumpsites and the countryside. This experience led to the opening of HOPE Children's Home in Phnom Penh. HOPE CH is a full-time home for orphaned, at-risk and abandoned children.

In addition, MAP continued supporting Motomedix free health clinics; which are located in impoverished slums and serve the neighborhood children and families with their medical needs. MAP funded the purchase of three ultrasound machines, two patient monitors and an EKG machine for use at three Motomedix Free Health Clinics.

Finally, MAP continued providing funding for food, medical needs, clothing and some of the programing at another 24-hr home for impoverished children in Phnom Penh: Aziza'sPlace.

MAP in Afghanistan

The literacy rate in Afghanistan is one of the lowest among developing countries and female literacy is the lowest in the world. Many girls are forced to work at an early age and are not allowed to go to school. MAP believes that education is one of the leading tools to help these girls become empowered and independent individuals within their community.

In 2011, MAP spend $20,000 funding for the continued support of computer, English, literacy, cultural exchange, environmental and peace education at Rokhshana Girls School in Kabul. These programs not only supported over 2,000 girls but also provided training for 23 teachers and administrative staff, helping them become stronger teachers for these girls.

We are pleased to report that many of these students are recruited and employed by various companies and organizations doing business in Kabul.

MAP in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is one of the world's poorest countries with nearly 75% of people earning less than $2 a day. Many children are still dealing with the trauma of being forced to fight for years in a brutal war and they are striving to get back into a normal childhood and life. Schools in Sierra Leone are in great need. They are underfunded and under resourced, with very poor and unsafe building structures.

In 2011 MAP spent $28,000 to build a school in Central Sierra Leone and repair another school's roof and electrical generator. In addition, we provided school supplies and medicine to 500 children.
