Greetings!
Dear (Contact First Name),

Happy New Year from all us at The Wisconsin Beef Council!

The New Year has arrived and the resolutions have been made. Like many, yours might include losing some weight or getting in shape-but there's more to health than simply a size or a number on the scale. Simply focusing on what you eat can make all the difference.  We've got you covered this month with tips for a healthy grocery list and simple, delicious low calorie recipes including your favorite protein...lean beef!

Healthy Grocery List for the New Year!

Lean Beef Photo

Welcome to 2012! As we begin the New Year, why not stock the pantry and refrigerator with healthy, great-tasting foods to make dinnertime a snap?! We've included some easy ideas and a simple beef recipe for each item-healthy shopping (and eating) couldn't be easier!

Frozen vegetables are a freezer staple. Choose your favorite types and stock up when there's a sale. When mealtime approaches, you can grab what you've got and whip up a delicious Simple Savory Beef Pot Roast.

Savory spices like chipotle chili powder will provide lots of flavor in your healthy dishes, while keeping salt and fat to a minimum. Check out Smoky Chipotle Pot Roast with Cornbread for a great example of the spice in action.

Much like spices, fresh herbs, garlic and ginger can be used in so many ways to boost flavor in a recipe while keeping it healthy. These all make an appearance in Beef Pot Roast with Maple Sweet Potatoes and Cider Gravy-perfect for days when the weather doesn't cooperate.

New Year's Resolution...
"Enjoy Your Food, But Eat Less"!

If you have been following the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans then you already know that one of the take home messages is for Americans to eat smaller portions.  At a time when calories really matter, lean beef is a great solution that can satisfy your appetite and provide more nutrients for fewer calories than many other foods. Nutrient-rich lean beef can help you meet the new Dietary Guidelines because it provides 10 essential nutrients for about 154 calories. In fact, it can take two to three times more calories to get the same amount of protein from many plant-based alternatives than from lean beef  (visit BeefTips.com for more information).
