Healthy Roast Drippings
Place a large zip-top heavy-duty plastic bag inside a 2-cup measure. Pour drippings into bag; let stand 10 minutes (the fat will rise to the top). Seal bag; carefully snip off one bottom corner of the bag. Begin draining the drippings into the 2-cup measure, stopping before the fat layer reaches the opening. Discard fat. Cover and refrigerate the drippings until you are ready to use them. |
Tips to Avoid the Holiday "Bulge"
We all work hard throughout the year to stay in shape and eat well. With the holidays nearing it is easy to blow it on traditional holiday feasts, office holiday parties and the big bash on New Year's Eve. We can all avoid the holiday bulge with just a little planning. Here are a few tips to get you through this holiday season...
- Don't deny yourself (Deprivation may lead to overindulgence)
- Be selective (Go for the dishes that are new and different. You don't have to try everything at the table)
- Exercise(Short walks provide a great boost of energy)
- Avoid temptation(Don't fill up the cookie jars and snack bins. Choose healthy snacks)
- Eat regular meals (Don't skip meals. Saving those calories for the Big Feast will only set you up for losing control and overeating)
- Choose smaller portions
- Eat slowly
- Stop when your satisfied
- Don't strive for perfection (If you do overindulge don't sweat it, take it in stride and get back on track)
- Take it easy on the booze(It will stimulate your appetite and you may lose your reserve)
- Cook low-fat foods (see )
