News from Carolyn Rose at Isaac Royal Farm

In spite of the harsh Maine winter we have had a productive training season in February so far.  Students have been tenacious about training and I have been schooling five to twelve horse and rider combinations on an average day.

Recently added video clips from the North East Horse Expo in 2008 where Carolyn Rose lectured on the levels of dressage. Using her student Sandra Beaulieu as the demo rider and Royal Vienna as the demo horse she put on a well done educational clinic. Here are the video clips:

Part One: warm-up, rider position, aids of dressage
Part Two: shoulder-in & trot halfpass
Part Three: basic canter, flying changes, tempi changes, halfpass
Part Four: preparation & execution of counter canter
Part Five: canter pirouettes
Part Six: trot movement passage

Rollkur
Much is being said about rollkur today. The Aspirant Technique is seeded in Classical Dressage which means anything that is forced would not be acceptable. Taking the horse beyond round and deep and over stretching the spine into hyperflexion, behind the vertical, would be potentially damaging, not to mention the negative effect it may have on the wind pipe, jaw, etc.  Round and deep lifts the back up, strengthening it's ability to carry weight. On the other hand allowing the horse to stretch its nose out and up, causing the back to drop is also potentially harmful to the spine, because it weakens the backs ability to carry weight. So let's be logical and simply ride our horses softly, kindly and classically.

Sandra teaches in Florida
Sandra Beaulieu is scheduled to teach a clinic in
Tallahassee, Florida Sandra in Floridaat Southern Oaks Equestrian Center, owned and operated by Marsha Hartford-Saap.  The clinic will be from a "judges perspective."
Participants ride their test and Sandra gives a mini lesson on how they can improve.  Sandra sells the Aspirant Technique book at clinics and on her online store.
