Insurance and Social Media
The Insurance Industry Experiments with Social Media
There's a lot of talk going around about Social Media. Predictably, the first industries to experiment with the new platforms were Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) companies like Coca-Cola, Mars Candy, Proctor and Gamble and the like, but Social Media has expanded across industries.

Allstate is the Social Media front runner of the insurance industry, with their Good Hands Community, a website and forum for the Allstate community (agents, insureds, underwriters, brokers...etc.) to talk about their experiences in the field, ask questions and get advice. Esurance has capitalized on the popularity of their cartoon mascot, Erin Esurance, by launching Erin's World, their own social forum.

Social Media adoption has yet to become the industry norm, but with 23% of insurance agencies having some some social presence (whether on Facebook, Twitter or their own blog) it's headed toward the mainstream.

Are you active on Social Media? Do you have a blog, Facebook or Twitter page? Let me know, and I will feature your site in the next IRMG Brief.

British Hen Adopts Litter of Puppies
A broody British hen named Mabel has mistaken a litter of puppies for chicks and is determined to raise them as her own. The chicken has taken to roosting indoors in the puppies' basket, while their true mother, a dog named Nettle, loiters outside in the yard. How's that for an identity crisis?

As always, I look forward to meeting and working with all of you in the near future. Please, feel free to email me at DBetras@irmgroup.com or call me at 1.888.622.IRMG for any reason.

Sincerely,
