September 2012

Greetings!
Tomorrow is the FIRST-EVER National Voter Registration Day!! The California Participation Project has been working with a broad-based group of national and local non-partisan civic engagement organizations, including the Alliance for Justice, Arts for L.A., California Common Cause, Cal State University Los Angeles, the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, NALEO, Thai CDC, and Voto Latino to put together the following events to celebrate the big day. Join us at one of these two celebrations, or to find a NVRD event near you, visit www.nationalvoterregistrationday.org! About National Voter Registration Day In 2008, 6 million Americans didn't vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn't know how to register. In 2012, we want to make sure no one is left out. On September 25, 2012, volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country will "hit the streets" for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated field, technology, and media efforts will create pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities -- allowing us to reach tens of thousands of voters or more who we could not reach otherwise. For a full list of all events, go to www.nationalvoterregistrationday.org. |

And finally, join us AFTER National Voter Registration Day on Friday, September 28, from 8 - 10am for this special event organized by the Pat Brown Institute and KPCC 89.3:
Friday, September 28, 20128:00am - 10:00am
The Crawford Family Forum 474 S. Raymond Ave. Pasadena, CA 91105
To vote or not to vote? What's the practical impact of voting rules? What's been done to engage voters who've historically been hard to reach, and how effective have those efforts been? What is the 'real deal' with younger voters, typically considered least likely to cast ballots? Join the Pat Brown Institute of CSULA and host KPCC for a lively discussion about voting and our future.
Admission is FREE, but RSVPs are required. Click here to RSVP.
For more information, contact Jackie Ruiz at (323) 343-3770 or via email at jruiz@cslanet.calstatela.edu.
