Winter's End

  Dear Membership,

At our staff meeting today we decided to stop adulterating our precious fuel with petroleum.  For the past six months we have had two short trucks in our fuel terminal.  One was filled with petroleum diesel, the other was for biodiesel.  We would pump from one to the other to create a B80 blend to deliver to you on the misnamed B100 Community Trail.

This has been a mild winter.  It's been kind of creepy, actually.  Traditionally we have blended with petroleum from the first frost in November to the last frost in April.  This year we are cutting it short.

As of today you are on your own.  We're back to B100.

We should say this is not an original thought.  We have had members call us, and email us, asking us to "lose the petroleum."  So we are going to comply.  Buying it is expensive, messy, toxic, and hard to handle.  We also have a hard time sending our hard earned dollars off to far away countries like Iran, and Venezuela, (who don't like us very much), and worse yet to places like Saudi Arabia and Canada who adore us for our petrol dollars.

So we are back to delivering the good stuff.

Having said that, it might get cold again.  There was a day when we only delivered B100 and we let the membership fend for itself.  People watched the weather.  People filled up part of their tanks with our fuel, and part of their tanks at the gas station.

That might be necessary again.  Who knows?  Is it going to get cold again before April 15th?  If it does, the responsibility to adulterate lies with you.  We're out.

Our current fuel is derived from waste vegetable oil and happily flows below 32 degrees.

If you forget to mix in petroleum, and you find your car won't start, simply do what we do:  push your vehicle into a sunny place, call your employer to tell them you are gelled, and head into work around noon instead of eight in the morning.

Here's hoping that doesn't happen to you.  We feel silly pumping petroleum on 70 degree days.  Right now all of the fruit trees are in bloom and the bees are booming.  Let's pretend Spring is here, and let's be wary of the night or two when that may not be the case...

Happy Motoring,

Piedmont Biofuels Staff
