Cold Weather Additive Program
|
|
For the past few years, as the weather changes around "First Frost," we have added petroleum to the B100 Community Trail as a cold weather insurance strategy. Most of you know that B100 doesn't like being cold. To keep it flowing, and happy, we cut it with petroleum. 20% petroleum has gotten us through most North Carolina winters--although we did move to B70 (or 30% petroleum) last year in the heart of winter.
Now that the leaves are in full regalia, it is time for us to add petroleum again. Some call it "additive." Some call it "adulteration." Some call it "insurance." Whatever the name, it just makes sense for us to add petroleum to the Trail to help you avoid hard starts on cold mornings. In keeping with time honored tradition, we will leave the Moncure location at B99.9 all winter long. Those hard core members who want nothing to do with petroleum and have devised their own cold weather strategies can go ahead and fill up in Moncure. We will begin adding petroleum now, and will change the signage at each pump as our drivers make the rounds. Carrboro Public Works, Carrboro - 100 Public Works Drive, Carrboro--B80
Edible Earthscapes, Moncure - 37 Bill Thomas Lane, Moncure--B99.9
Larry's Beans, Raleigh - 1507 Gavin Street, Raleigh--B80
Piedmont Biofuels, Pittsboro - 220 Lorax Lane, Pittsboro--B80
Saxapahaw General Store, Saxapahaw - 1735 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Road, Saxapahaw--B80 TS Designs, Burlington - 2053 Willow Springs, Burlington--B80

Welcome to Wilmington
Everyone knows that Wilmington North Carolina has a rich history. It's loaded with stories, and legends, and ghosts.
For many years it biodiesel enthusiasts were served by Cape Fear Biofuels, and Wilmington was a stop on the B100 Community Trail. Cape Fear was a cooperative, and Piedmont had a "reciprocity" agreement with them such that their members could fill up at our locations when passing through the Triangle, and our members could fill up in Wilmington whenever we were visiting the beach. We used to sell fuel to Cape Fear. And we used to envy their logo and the paint job on their short truck.
When Cape Fear vanished into the mists Piedmont started feeling the pressure. For years we said "no" to former Cape Fear members, but at long last we have succumbed. We are building a B100 dispenser in Wilmington--in the side yard of Tidal Creek Coop on Oleander. After three site plans, and some location moves, today we received a green light from the Planning Department.
Thanks to Stephan Caldwell (Piedmont board member) and Kathryn Thurston (New Hanover County) for making this possible. And thanks to Tidal Creek for letting us build a dispenser in their vegetable garden and for providing us with electricity and bandwidth. Also thanks to Dr. Aaron Richardet (Wilmington biodiesel enthusiast) for his relentless guidance and pressure.
When? We have the space at Tidal Creek. We have the Planning Approval. We have a builder lined up. And we have the financing in place. This project will be jointly financed by Triangle Clean Cities through the Department of Energy and by local Wilmington investors. All we have to do now is order stuff, and turn some wrenches.
We would like to say "Open by New Years," but since we are often wrong in our projections, we are going to leave it to "As soon as possible..."
