Piedmont leads Biodiesel workshop with

Charlotte area Fleet Managers

Chris USB

Last month Chris Jude travelled out to Concord to lead a workshop with Charlotte area fleet managers on transitioning their fleets to Biodiesel.  Co-hosted with Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition, and sponsored by the US Soy Bean Board, the workshop was aimed at teaching the fleet managers the benefits and concerns related to switching their vehicles and equipment to biodiesel blends.

The crowd included a mix of private and public fleet managers, as well as sustainability coordinators from several cities and towns in the area.

A highlight of the workshop was a talk by Dan Nuckolls, Fleet Services Director for City of Concord.  Dan has been a big supporter of biodiesel, using B20 throughout our fleet since 2009.  This is a big accomplishment, and has taken some dedication on City of Concords part.  Unlike the Triangle, Biodiesel and B20 blends aren't as easy to come by outside of Charlotte.  Dan has had to work with his suppliers to ensure he gets high quality fuel.  It was exciting to see such dedication from a fleet manager, and such interest from others who are in charge of so much equipment and fuel purchasing.

After the talks,  participants came outside to see a live demonstration of Piedmont's famed Cleantech mobile biodiesel trailer.  We pressed flax seeds for oil and discussed processing technology and handling of biodiesel.  Keep you eye out for Cleantech at this year's Fall Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival October 7-10.  Come say hi to your fuelmakers!
