Central glue pumping systems offer a low-maintenance way to distribute your liquid adhesive to various pieces of converting equipment in the plant. But sometimes they are forgotten after several years of installation and have built up a coating on the inside of coagulated glue. During the next scheduled plant maintenance, consider cleaning the central system. Replace the glue tote with a tote of water. Add vinegar to the water to achieve between a 5% and 10% vinegar concentration. Begin pumping the water through the system. Start purging the most distant glue line drop and work your way toward the pump. You know you are finished when the water is clear and free of large particles. Once the lines are clear, inspect the fittings and joints for leaks. Replace steel piping with PVC to avoid corrosion. Then replace the water tote with a fresh glue tote and begin purging the glue drops until the adhesive is free of water.

The same process can be used for individual pumping systems on a machine to flush the system. Be sure to replace any deteriorated suction or pressure lines with good tubing and fittings. By doing this,  you can ensure years of high quality performance without having to be concerned about lines bursting or degrading and contaminating your glue. Remember, a good glue application is dependent on a clean glue supply with full pressure. Prepare now and avoid problems later.
