Air Force Band of the Golden WestIndependence Day would not be complete without a good old-fashioned community concert. This is the third year the event has been held and it has become a very popular and well-attended concert people of all ages enjoy.  Under the sponsorship of the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center, Allen Tripp and Susan Mann, former band and choir directors at Blackfoot High School, will be directing a community band and men's chorus in an evening of patriotic and American music.  Others featured will be Kendra Gardner Hillier, the High Stepper Tappers, Kelcey Wright, a men's quartet, and a trumpet trio.  A special tribute will be made to all veterans attending the concert.  Area residents are encouraged to celebrate Independence Day by attending a memorable community concert and then watch the traditional fireworks display at Jensen's Grove.

KusunThe Kusun Ensemble is an extraordinary group of musicians and dancers based in Ghana, West Africa. By blending the authentic sounds of traditional instruments with the exuberance of hi-life music and the complexity of African jazz, they have developed a unique Ghanaian sound that brings the tropical passion of West African music and dance to the world stage.  Founded by Nii Tettey Tetteh, the group includes past members of The National Ballet and The Pan African Orchestra. Although rooted in traditional music, the ensemble has developed a new brand of music and dance they have dubbed "Nokoko." They have created innovative rhythms and dances by fusing bass and lead guitar, electrifying jazz and African rhythms, and traditional Ghanaian instruments. In their quest to develop a new style of Ghanaian music, they have been dazzling audiences in Ghana and around the world.

Int. Dance Fest. 2010Whether you have experienced the thrill of an international dance and music festival or not, this is the year to mark your calendar to see three countries perform at the BPAC. Each summer, over 300 dancers and musicians come to the International Folk Dance Festival, based in Rexburg,  to share the excitement of their native dances and music. These performances are alive with colorful costuming, exotic instruments and stirring rhythms. Coming from the four corners of the earth, many of these exuberant performers have never visited America.  Countries expected to perform in Blackfoot are Mongolia, Thailand, and Egypt.  A special treat for concert goers will be a pre-show at 6:30 pm featuring the Danza Astca Quetzalcoatl dancers from southeast Idaho.
