This month, we celebrate the achievements of Pennsylvania producers. John Ligo, Mercer County, won a National BQA Award at this year's Cattle Industry Convention, Denver. His win makes Pennsylvania a national winner, two years in a row, joining Phoebe Bitler, Berks County, the 2010 honoree. Ligo Wins National BQA Award
On Thursday, February 3, two producers were honored with the annual national Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) award, created to recognize outstanding beef and dairy producers from across the country who incorporate BQA principles as part of the day-to-day activities on their operations. The winners were selected based on their commitment to beef quality assurance while operating sustainable cattle operations.
2011 winners were John Ligo, LiTerra Farms of Mercer, Pa. (dairy), and Mike Milicevic, Lykes Bros. Inc. of Okeechobee, Fla. (beef).

Bupp Elected to Beef Promotion Operating Committee  The Beef Promotion Operating Committee was created by the Beef Promotion Research Act to help coordinate state and national Beef Checkoff Programs. The 20-person committee includes 10 members of the Cattlemen's Beef Board, among them the Board's three officers and seven others elected directly by Beef Board members. Joyce Bupp, a dairy farmer from Seven Valleys, PA, is one of seven recently elected members. Joyce also leads the checkoff's Public Relations Subcommittee. Read more about Joyce, and her farm.
