It's been a beautiful fall in Pennsylvania -- it's hard to believe Old Man Winter might make his seasonal debut any day now!
Halloween is this Sunday. In this issue, find an easy way to incorporate lean beef into your Halloween festivities with Monster Mash Meatball Soup or satisfy your party guests with veal tacos. Congratulations to Kristen Stufft, PA Beef Ambassador, and now National Beef Ambassador. Kristen continues Pennsylvania's legacy of outstanding college students who compete, and win, a natonal beef ambassador title. We hope to see many of you at our November BQA trainings. |

Stufft on National Beef Ambassador Team
Madlynn Ruble, Albert Lea, Minn., Jessica Sweet, Livermore, Calif., Austin Joyce, Pearland, Texas, Kelli Fulkerson, Burlington, Mich., and Kristen Stufft, Lewistown, Penn. were chosen as the 2011 National Beef Ambassador Team winners at the annual competition, funded in part by the beef checkoff, held Oct. 1-3 in Rapid City, S.D. Contestants were judged in the areas of consumer promotion, classroom presentation, media interview technique and issues response.
Twenty-six contestants from throughout the country vied for a place on this elite team of agriculture advocates and $5,000 in cash prizes as well as five educational scholarships totaling $5,000 given by the American National CattleWomen Foundation, Inc. Additionally, one Beef Ambassador will be chosen for a prestigious USDA internship in Washington, DC.

New Beef Council Board of Directors
The Pennsylvania Beef Council board of directors elected Alan Frederick, Bedford County, as Chairperson during their recent re-organizational meeting on October 20. He succeeds outgoing Chairperson Dennis Byrne, Chester County, who led the Board from 2009-10. Dairy farmer Alan Frederick operates Frederick Farms, Inc., with his family in Friends Cove, Pennsylvania. The family's Jersey cow herd totals 740 animals, with about 390 milking cows. Alan's previously served as president of the Bedford County Economic Development Council and is an active Rotarian. Read more about the new officers and directors. |

Beef Boot Camp in New York City
On Thursday, October 21, staff from the NY Beef Industry Council, the PA Beef Council and the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI) partnered to host a Beef Training Camp with King Kullen, a mid-size retail supermarketwith 48 locations headquartered in Bethpage, NY.
More than 50 meat department employees attended Beef Training Camp in Long Island, New York City. Jean O'Toole, Director of Promotions and Public Relations for the NY Beef Industry Council, kicked off the program addressing the importance of customer service and providing tips on how to improve relationships with shoppers. Chris Molinaro, Director of Retail and Foodservice for the NEBPI, spoke about the Holiday Roast promotion and the most popular choice for grilling, ground beef. Staff concluded the presentation with an interactive 'Beef Jeopardy' game to reinforce the key concepts discussed earlier by the presenters. |
