This quote and article are a follow-up to last week's article about priorities: "You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage-pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically-to say no to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger yes burning inside" ~Stephen Covey.  So, with that in mind, what are you creating?  Set your intentions for what you want and also react to others in a way to create what you want.  If you want others to be independent and responsible and take care of things themselves, then convey that to them by giving them back responsibility for their own situations and tell them that you have confidence in their ability to handle whatever has come up in their life.  This helps them have confidence in themselves. This goes for your child, friend, anyone who counts on you for answers and a way out.  Of course, there are some situations that you may want to help with.  This brings you, again, back to last week's article where you may decide ahead of time those situations that you do want to handle or respond to.

These are very important things to consider if you have something important to create in your life or if you just want to live your life without a lot of distractions from things that come up.  It does take time to reinforce the idea that others can handle things on their own if they have been in the habit of depending on you for advice or help.  It takes setting limits or just listening but not responding with help.
