Hello everyone. It is a pleasure for me to have this opportunity to communicate with you again and share the latest news from the studio. I was so busy last month teaching at the college that I missed visiting with you in May. I hope to make up for my silence with this month's newsletter. I am pleased to announce the International Chinese Calligraphy and Ink Painting Society (ICCPS) exhibition at AnShan City, Liaoning province, China.
Dates: October 1 - 10, 2012
This exhibition is supported by administration bureau of AnShan City, Liao-ning province, China Liao-ning artist association and ICCPS China Liao-ning branch. Top artists in China will participate also.

Which Ink Stick?

Ink Stick used for grinding and making ink in Sumi-e
Chinese ink sticks have been used for thousands of years to create ink for calligraphy and sumi paintings. These sticks may be used for writing calligraphy or watercolor painting. To create ink using one of these ink sticks simply add a little water to an ink stone and rub the ink stick on the bottom until the desired amount of pigment is released.
Which Stick?
You have decided that the meditation and grinding process before starting a sumi-e painting to center your mind is for you. OK, now you ask yourself, "What kind of ink stick should I use?" I have grappled with this issue and have done some research to try and gain some knowledge on this subject. I pleased to share here with you what I found.Here is a very informative video on how to grind ink using ink sticks. Enjoy! Time: 7:53
