Greetings!

Happy new year everyone! It is the year of the dragon and we might see unexpected things in our lives this year. As we start this new year with hope in our hearts, I have much to be grateful for in my life and I am so thankful for you - my art supporters, patrons, and art collectors! It is a pleasure and an honor for me to communicate with you this month.  Shall we begin?

International Chinese Calligraphy & Ink Painting Society

The mission of  ICCPS is to share the passion of sumi-e & calligraphy around the world without distinguishing between styles & backgrounds. Under the direction of master sumi-e painter, Ransui Yakata, the institute seeks to form a community of independent sumi-e painters with often different styles, but infused with the same passion. We are currently in our second year of existence. We have branches in Tokyo, China, North America, Netherlands/Belgium, France, Germany, Australia, and our newest branch in Russia.

Art for Cancer Foundation

Founded by Cid Palacio, The ART for Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization, committed to improving the quality of life of people living with cancer by providing an outlet for creative expression through the arts, and by supporting research into the cause, control and cure of cancer.

Sometimes there just are no words to express how you are feeling when you're living with cancer. Painting is a powerful way to let your hands do the talking for you. The foundation offers many programs and workshops.

This is my contribution to this very special art exhibit. As many of you know, I used the creative process and my art as an integral part of my healing from a massive stroke. This artwork was inspired by the courage and spirit of my daughter who is currently fighting leukemia (AML). 60% of the proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to the AFC Foundation.

Haiku and Sumi-e
by Casey

Here is the first page of my sketchbook for 2012. I have created several of these sketchbooks over the years. I find making them to be great fun and they keep my 'creative juices flowing'. My sketchbook theme for this year was 'A Sketchbook' and I chose to fill my book with haiku and sumi-e. Enjoy!

Valley Girls Art Gallery

I am to be a featured artist at Valley Girls Art Galley in Carmel Valley from February 4 - May 1, 2012.
I will have an entire wall dedicated to showing my sumi-e paintings. This is a multi-media and multi-artist gallery. My work is the only sumi-e in the gallery. I was juried into the show last year.

Several original sumi paintings matted and framed in distinctive wood frames with acrylic glazing will be on display and available for purchase.

I WILL SHARE PICTURES OF THE HANGING NEXT NEWSLETTER!

~ Observations from a Service Dog

First sumi-e

Hi Everyone!

Here I am again this month.

Well, I learned that even us service dogs can get injured sometimes. Rats! I split a nail on my left front paw. It pulled away from the paw pad and created a hole that filled with dirt and debris. My paw got infected. I did not let Casey know I was hurt. She noticed me limping one night and rushed me to the vet where we found out that I had an infection. I got medication and a big bandage on my foot. Here is me:

I am recovered now. Thank goodness. I could not play ball or go for scooter rides for over a month! That was not fun....let me tell you!

Happy New Year Everyone!
