Artist in the Spotlight
  Bill Henderson

Road & EuclyptusArtist in the spotlight this month is Bill Henderson. He is an extraordinary painter based in Los Angeles, CA. Bill is also the Minister of Music at a Long Beach cathedreal. I recently interviewed him for this newsletter.

Q. What is art in your opinion?

Art is creating - visual and aural.  Drawing, painting, making music - both are art to me. As I am an organist as well as a painter, I have two different pallets to play with: sound and color.

Q. What is your favorite medium? Why?

My traditional favorite medium is pen ever since I was given my first Rapidograph and fell in love with line.  Lately I've rediscovered oils.  I'm fascinated with the idea of painting light on dark, so opposite to pen and other water media.

Q. What tools do you normally use to create art?
Orange Mountain

Pen, ink, watercolor and oils. I prefer brushwork to pallet knife.

Q. What inspires you to create?

My inspiration most always comes from what I'm looking at rather than what I see in my mind.

TreesQ.  What method do you follow when creating?

Huh?

Q.  How do you feel when you create art?

  Time stands still.

Bill's paintings are on display at various art galleries and venues throughout the LA area. You can also purchase original paintings directly from the artist.

On a Personal Note....

Spirit StandingSpirit Standing Sumi-e

This elegant Sumi-e is called Spirit Standing. This image was inspired by the spirit that resides in all of nature. A spirit that is ever present and all encompassing.

When I painted this Sumi-e, I was experiencing a little turmoil in my life. We all experience bumpy roads along our life journey. As I was painting in my mind during my pre-meditation, I was thinking how we can choose to have our spirits stand tall in the face of uncertainty and upset. My brush than flowed into this creation of 'Spirit Standing'.

The original Sumi-e painting is currently on exhibit at:
The Napa Valley Art Museum, which is located in Yountville, CA. The address is: 55 Presidents Circle.

My artwork will be on display until January 10, 2009.

Artist's Reception: November 28, 2009 at 7PM.

The original sumi-e painting 'Spirit Standing' is for sale at the Art Museum. The proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to the museum for their enrichment.

You may purchase Fine Art Reproductions of this stunning piece in my Zazzle Gallery. You may finish your print with a beautiful frame of your choice right on the website before purchase. Enjoy!
