Meet Jimmy Gasiya

  Jimmy

Jimmy and his brother Gabriel lost their parents when they were very young to HIV related illnesses. Their grandmother could not provide for their needs and they were suffering severly from malnutrition when they arrived at Sheltered Children's Home. Jimmy is a very happy and social six year old who loves to dance. He hopes to become an ambassador when he grows up. Please help support his hopes and dreams of a brighter future.

Groundbreaking News!
Thanks to an outpouring of support one year ago, DTW was able to open a facility to receive and care for abandoned babies in western Kenya, called the Heritage Baby Reception Center - Eldoret.  A suitable but small building was located, completely rennovated and staffed by very dedicated and caring local caregivers, and throughout the year more than 20 babies were rescued, and nearly half of them have now found foster homes. At the request of local ChristianWalls going up BRC #2 partner agencies in Eldoret, DTW has broken ground on a SECOND center for abandoned babies; this one will be twice the size, capable of housing up to 20 babies at a time. At this center (Baby Reception Center #2, as we are calling it for now), these babies will be surrounded by more than 40 other children: toddlers through school age, and over a dozen full-time caregivers.  The partner ministry which will be running BRC#2 is called Neema Children's Home of Eldoret, a long-established and beautifully run home for children with HIV/AIDS.  An amazing couple by the name of Joshua and Miriam Mbithi are the co-founders of Neema House, and Miriam is a registered nurse, in addition to being "mom" to several dozen children. Many of our US volunteers have visited Neema House,

and spent hours playing with the children there, and we have great confidence and trust in the wonderful and Godly people who will be managing the care of the many additional children who will be saved through this center. We are moving forward on this project even though it is only 50% funded at this time ($30,000 will be needed in 2012 to complete this project and fund its administration for the year) because our board, and many donors, have seen the hand of God on these caregivers and the excellent work they are doing; and also because we all have heard Jesus calling us to:

"Bring the little children unto me, and hinder them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven".  ~Mt19:14

May Jesus be honored and glorified through the lives of each and every one of the precious children He has created, and the people of Kenya have rescued from abandonment and almost certain death, with your help.  - Please keep giving.  And may you find great joy and blessing from God in doing so.

The Power of a Picture
Laura's photo 4Laura Gilligan, a 15 year old high school sophomore in Austin, TX, went with us to Kenya this past August with a group of about 20 other high school and college students. Her passion and knack for photography is revealed in some of the breathtaking images that she captured during this trip. Inspired by the beauty of Kenya and its people, she decided to enter her photos in a contest, and with them, she won 3rd place in the Association of Texas Photographic Instructors contest. Here are a few of these picture for you to see, in order that you may get a glimpse of Kenya through her eyes. Congratulations Laura!
