Greetings!
I am thrilled to be able to share with you the exciting news that three more of our Shepherd's Home family just graduated high school this past December. Scholastica, Judith, and Elizabeth all sat for their high school exams this fall and received their high school diplomas. Two of these girls have been with us since we first opened up the Shepherd's Home in 2003. They have grown and matured over the years into beautiful young women who love the Lord and want to make a difference in this world. It is hearing these stories that reminds me constantly, why we continue doing what we do here at Discover the World. We are giving children like Scholastica, Judith, and Elizabeth, the chance to experience being a part of the family of God and a foundation from which they can grow and learn to become individuals who will lead their country to a brighter future.

In Kenya, students have to take a year off between high school and college/university because they do not get their results back until later in March, after all of the schools have started. During this time of waiting and completing applications, our three girls have decided to spend this time giving back and helping out the other kids at the Shepherd's Home. Here are excerpts from letters that each of their girls wrote to their sponsors recently. After reading these, you will realize what a difference your support can mean in the lives of these children.

Scholastica Wangari Scholastica is currently helping out in the office at Shepherd's Home and just qualified to go to college to become an accountant. "I know that with God, all things are possible. I really thank Mum and pastor for all the love and care they have given me, it had kept me going up to this far. I also thank the Lord a lot for being surrounded by very loving people as you. Thank you so much for everything you have done to ensure that I have come this far. I never thought that a time like this would come when I would finish high school without a problem. It is God's work and your efforts too that have made all this possible! want to pursue a course in accounting, since I want to be an accountant in the future. Thereafter I plan to start my own bank and even my own orphanage so that I may help other orphaned kids in Kenya." |
 Judy Akinyi
Judy is also back at Shepherd's Home working with the preschool and elementary children. She is planning on going to the university next year to become a lawyer or an accountant someday.
"I too am happy because I'm done with High school. As much as I'm happy, I'm more than grateful for your support and prayers, for showing me your love by sending me letters and gifts, and finally because you have been paying all of my school fees and you've never grown tired of that. Thank you so very much and may God bless the work of your hands. Right now, I'm helping out in the Home where mum and dad (Nelly and Mac) assigned me some duties in the Pre-School. I'm happy to have such responsibility because after all, I'm sure so many people have been responsible for me up to this point. For me you are one angel in a million." |

Elizabeth Njoki
Elizabeth is in the process of making plans to attend beauty school this upcoming year, and is excited about this new career opportunity.
"Here in Kenya we are also fine, and happy enjoying everyday that is new in which our God has given us, with His grace that is sufficient every minute. As for me, I am really grateful to goodness and God's mercy that he has granted unto you in full for me to reach this far. I can't take it forgranted. Before I forget, I really want to thank you very much. If it were not for you and God's help I could have not reached this far. I will always be grateful to you and to God for helping me through bad and good times. Be sure to know that I will always be grateful to you."

Upcoming college graduation for Seeds in HIS Garden student
This is Jacintah! Back in 1998, she was one of the very first children taken into Seeds In HIS Garden (SIHG), a ministry partner of Discover the World. She was rescued by Becky, a missionary who runs the home in Kenya. She had been abandoned and had little hope of ever getting an education. Jacinta once wrote:
"Becky has loved, cared, and gone through thick and thin for us. Because she wants the best for us, she decided to get us the best education."
Now Jacintah is about to graduate from college with a BS degree in nursing. She recently wrote these words to us:
"In about four months I will be done with school, which would not have been possible without your support. Words cannot really express my heart felt gratitude for all you have done for me and my SIHG family. Looking back, finishing high school was not in the picture for me, let alone college. But as we all know, God's ways are not our ways and His thoughts are past our finding out. I'm writing this to all of you with a grateful heart to thank you so very much for everything that you have done for me and for my SIHG family."
It is our hope to be able to share with you many more stories like Jacintah's in the near future, with many of our students at Shepherd's Home and Shelter Children's Home beginning to graduate high school and pursue furthering their education or finding a vocation. |
