Greetings!

It is with great excitement that I am writing this newsletter and get to share with you a truly wonderful event! On September 24th we welcomed our first child into the new Abandoned Baby Reception  Six month old baby Joseph instantly melted everyone's heart with his joyful spirit and bright eyes.

When Juliet Muthiani went to visit the center on September 30th, she described, "my visit to the center was different from many others I had made. The house which was once cold, dusty, and quite.... looked bright, warm, and so full of life. Joseph moved from one pair of hands to the next, and not even once did he cry or show signs of discomfort."

Babies Faith, Juliet, and Sharon joined him in the home in early Ocotber, and there he was with a smile, waiting to welcome and protect his new little sisters. Through the generous givings of supporters of Discover the World, this dream of providing a safe haven for these precious children as they transition to permanent homes or adoptive families, has fin ally become a reality.

For those that did not know, the dream for the Eldoret Baby Reception Center began back in 2009 as a response to all of the abandoned babies being born and left at places like bus stops and police stations in the western Kenyan town of Eldoret.  We felt God's calling to step in and rescue these precious children that were left with no one to care for them.

There is still much work to be done and a need for funds in order to make sure these children continue to receive proper care andsupport, and so that we will be able to take in more children in the near future. If you can help with a pledge or a one-time gift, anything you can give will greatly help us in continuing to provide staff, medical care, diapers, clothes, and food for those children on a sustained basis.

This
is
just the beginnning for better things to come for the vulnerable children of Eldoret.
A dedication ceremony is scheduled for early this November. We can't wait to continue to share with you all that God is doing through your faithfulness and support, and to keep you updated on the lives of babies Joseph, Faith, Juliet, and the many others that are cared for at the Baby Reception Center.

Hope for a brighter future

The Bible says in James 1:27, that "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

Thank you again so very much for your generosity!

God Bless,

Doug Millham

DTW responds to an urgent request

Last month we received an urgent message from Mary Muriuri, director of Shelter Children's Home. She said that there were almost one hundred children at the home who could not go to school because she did not have the fees to send them for this term. With some help from emergency funding we were able to get these children back into school, but they will be facing the same problem again very soon if we can not find a way to get these children the support they need. Just as education is so important here, it is also crucial for these Kenyan children who have hopes and dreams of graduating high school and going on to college or learning a trade so that they may have a brighter future. Won't you please help us sponsor one of these children?

MEET GABRIEL

GabrielGabriel Saiyaka is 7 years old and in 2nd grade. His parents both died of HIV related illnesses when he was just 3 years old, leaving him and his younger brother under the care of their elderly grandmother. She was unable to look after these boys due to her failing health and lack of money. They hardily got enough food and they became weak and malnourished. It was from this dire situation that Shelter Children's Home came along and rescued them. They have grown into strong little boys since their arrival in 2005. Gabriel enjoys coloring and singing and wants to be an artist when he grows up. Gabriel is just one of over 100 children at Shelter Children's Home who are in need of sponsoring in order for them to continue receiving care, nurishment, and an education. Please join us in sponsoring him or another child from Shelter Children's Home.
