Greetings!

As Summer comes to an end this month here in the States, a new season is coming and we are excited to see what God has planned for our friends in Kenya. This month they have celebrated some political progress there and now have a constitution which also means progress for the children we serve and their futures as Kenyans.

We have a lot to share in this newsletter and hope that it brings encouragement to you and pray you'll continue to support the work of Discover the World both in Kenya and the US.

The Graduating Young Ladies of Shepherd's Home

It has been such a blessing for Discover the World to watch these young ladies grow and now prepare to graduate from high school in Kenya. They each have goals and prospects for the future and we are excited about how God will continue to work in their lives as young adults of Kenya.

But first! Each of these three young ladied must pass a national required high school graduation and college entrance exam!

So we are asking the Supporters of Discover the World to pray for each of them: Scholastica, Elizabeth, and Judith (pictured below in that order Left to Right) as they prepare to take this exam in November.

Discover the World in Kenyan News

Doug Millham, Jackie Millham and Janice McGlashan all visited Kenya last year and one of the stops on their visit was the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret Kenya. Please visit the link below on the Hospital's News page regarding their visit.

Traveling to Kenya ...and coming home

It was an easy choice! Going to summer school, or going to Africa; I'm pretty confident that most people would choose to go to a new country. So that's where it all began. In August 2009 I was fortunate enough to go on a mission trip to Kenya with Discover the World. The entire trip was one of the best experiences of my life! I knew I wanted to do something to help the kids we were able to see in Kenya. I decided to use one of my passions, designing and sewing clothes, to help. It was one of the best decisions I've made. I decided to put on a fashion show and raise money for Discover the World. After seeing what the organization was doing first-hand in Kenya I knew I wanted to help. For me, it was just a fashion show that I could do for fun, have my friends model, and hopefully people would show up. But, I found out that the community I live in was there to support me and Discover the World more than I had ever imagined. It was crazy to see that the smallest decision can make the biggest difference.

A News Flash Just In...

Dear Friends:  I am so excited to show you the first photos just in from the construction and renovation the Baby Reception Center in Eldoret, Kenya as supported by Discover the World.  You can see the joy in director Patrick Chege as the pictures go up, the cabinets go in, and there is Anne Kjeni having fun with the animals on the wall.

Dedication of this amazing facility will take place the first week of October.  You are welcome to join a small group of donors along with myself to be part of that miraculous moment.  (for more information, drop me a note at doug@discovertheworld.org ).

You will not want to miss being there when they take in the first of 20 abandoned babies, whom God created, and deeply loves.  "He Knows Their Names"....  and I know he will provide the remaining $25,000 to complete the funding for the first year of operation, being reminded as the Bible says in James 1:27, that "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

May the Lord Bless you for your generosity,

Doug Millham
