Discover the World
December Wishes
Greetings!

We would like to wish you a warm and blessed holiday season to you and your family. And thank you for your valuable support throughout the year. Let me list some of the wonderful and glorious projects we've been working on, throughout the year:
  • Orphanages and Infant Care Homes:
Have received supplemental emergency food grants, construction and educational assistance in the last several months, but they still need much more.
  • Sponsor-A-Child Program:
Now includes more than 150 boys and girls. But there are more than 100 still waiting for our help.
  • Emergency Relief Fund has provided desperately needed food staples like beans, rice, vegetables and other resources to thousands of needy children and families in the Nairobi Slums, Sigona, Gilgil, Eldoret and Ukambani in Eastern Kenya.
  • Fresh Drinking Water Storage Tanks, Pipes and Plumbing were installed for the Sheltered Children's Rehabilitation Center that houses over 200 children in Ngong. But that's just one of several that still needs water!

Discover The World has accomplished a great deal in Africa. And we thank God for the opportunity to serve these needy children and families. But we are far from finished.

Our Holiday Wish is Simple - Just The Basics.

Today we would like to ask all of you for additional help in very specific areas of need. It is our wish that the simple, basic necessities will reach these children before the end of the year. Or even better, before Christmas!

Let's start with food, which is a very basic necessity of life.
  • Did you know that $1 would feed a child for an entire day? $30 will feed one child for an entire month! That's less than a cup of coffee a day at Starbucks.
  • $100 Makes you an Emergency Food Aid Supplier and feed an entire family for one month!

  • YES, I would like to donate $500 and feed an entire orphanage for one month!
Shoes are another basic need. As you know, sneakers or running shoes in America are quite common, but in Africa they are the exception rather than the rule. Can you imagine walking over hills with sharp rocks and brush to get water, in just bare feet? That's what these children endure.
  • $25 will buy a pair of shoes for one child.
  • $100 provides shoes to 4 needy children! That's about the same price as an average pair of Nikes!
Mosquitoes are a huge problem in Africa not only because they are annoying, but also because they spread contagious and deadly disease that put children and families at greater risk. For $20 you can supply one mosquito net to a child. That's about the cost of one movie ticket and a small soda!
Education is almost priceless to needy children that we bring into our orphanages, because it is one of the only resources that will help them climb out of their current situation. Education along with vocational training ensures that these children will have a means to support themselves as they get older. It also provides them with self-confidence and independence. For $50 you can provide one child with educational supplies for a month including school fees, books, tuition and school uniform. That's what most people spend on a nice dinner for two or a dozen roses!

Water is the most vital, basic need for sustaining life. In Africa, clean water is hard to find and even harder to make available in the poorer areas of Kenya. One water tank can provide so much to an entire village, providing vital nourishment to families, their animals and their crops. One water tank costs $1,500, which is extremely cost efficient, when you consider that most Americans charge about that much, every month, on their credit cards.
Need help deciding where your contribution would make the most difference? We will handle it. And thank you for your donation!

Share In The Greatness This Holiday

By lending your support through donations, you are taking part in something truly great this Holiday - filling the needs of children and families in Africa. The children and families that God has entrusted to our care are precious treasures filled with dreams for their future, but facing enormous obstacles to achieving them. With your help, Discover The World can inspire them to realize a future filled with hope and opportunity and come to know the plan that God has for each and every one of them.

Blessings, always,

Doug
