Thankfulness
by Christa Peitzman
Thank.ful.ness -noun- expressing gratitude
To express my gratitude for all I have received through my experiences with Discover The World in Kenya is a big task indeed! I have been to Kenya twice with Discover The World and have been stretched and remolded both times. So my gratitude... well it is for all of the lessons learned and yet to be learned on future trips. Lessons about being open to the Holy Spirit and her prodding, trusting in the power of prayer, showing love to a stranger, and learning to live a life lead by faith. These lessons were learned in the following ways: When Jopath, the doorman at the Serena, climbed onto our bus to sing Amazing Grace with us and pray over our day ahead. When Anne and Douglas opened their home to us and fed us and welcomed us as family. Watching Nellie and how she handles all that comes with raising 51 children. Listening to Joshua, Miriam and Obediah share their stories of God's never ending faithfulness . Experiencing the joy of children receiving their first pair of shoes bought just for them. Juliet getting down on the ground with the woman at the IDP camp to listen to her despair and offer her some comfort. And thousands of Kenyan smiles permanently etched on my heart! For all this and more I am eternally thankful!

The Girl Child, Kenya

Posted in a recent article, "only one-third of Kibera's** girls go to school. Some work with their families doing housework or taking care of sick relatives. Others get into drugs or prostitution, or marry young with the hope that they might get money from their husbands to pay for school fees." (UNICEF, Fatuma's Digital Diary: Girls' education in Kenya's largest slum).
As we move forward into 2010, we are re-capturing the song of our heart to help the Girl Child complete her education in the impoverished areas throughout Kenya. Would you help us see this vision come to life? Click on the 'Donate Today' button above and be part of changing the future for a Kenyan through our Education Support Fund.
**Kibera is Nairobi's largest slum. Discover the World took a trip there in August 2009, the photos seen above & below were taken during that visit.
