Derek & Jonathan Need You!

Brothers waiting

"Derek" is an almost 11 year old boy waiting with his brother, "Jonathan", to be matched with you.  Derek is described as a healthy child with cognitive delays.  He attends school and gets along well with others.  Derek is interested in art and computers.  Jonathan and Derek lived with their birth parents until 2002 and they are eager to be placed with a forever family.

"Jonathan", age 9 years, is described as an extrovert who is curious and loves to learn.  He attends school and does quite well, getting along with other students and his teachers.  Jonathan is interested in computers, soccer, and other sports.

Pictures and a medical are available if you are interested in adopting the brothers.  Two trips are anticipated to complete the adoption.
If you are interested in Derek and Jonathan, please contact Angela Jackson, our waiting child coordinator.  We encourage families who have their homestudy complete to inquire, but if you do not, we ask that you are ready to work quickly to complete everything.

CAS has several waiting children.  See more on the
Waiting Children pageFor questions about waiting children, contact Angela Jackson, our waiting child coordinator.  She will be able to guide you through the different programs and application.

Helpful Advice

by Robie & Belinda, home from Korea

Hello-our names are Robie and Belinda and we have almost completed our second adoption journey!  WeChildren adopted from Korea-family story have two beautiful children from Korea:  our son, Gavin, is three; and our daughter, Katelyn, is one year old.

When our son first came home he was 10 months old and he immediately bonded with daddy first.  It took several weeks before he would look mommy's way which was heartbreaking but understandable.  Our daughter on the other hand was 9 months old and bonded with mommy first and it has taken a couple of months for her to bond with daddy.

You have to be prepared for every situation that may occur during your adoption.  Once we met our children for the first time it was obvious who they picked to bond with first.  This is why it is so very important to use every resource you can, before, during, and after your adoption.  We have done so by learning all we could through online classes, in-person classes, and reading books about adoption.

We found that it was most helpful speaking to other families who have completed their adoption journey.  Mostly all the families we spoke with were more than happy to talk about their journey to their children.  We were always eager to hear everything they had to say about their experience with anticipation of our journey.  Carolina Adoption Services helped us prepare by making sure we had all the information and resources we needed for our adoption.  The wait for your child can seem long and learning about your child's country and heritage can help pass the time.

If we had to give anyone helpful advice it would be to use all the resources you can and have patience.

MSP Sept 2011

At the recent meeting of sponsored students the topic was "Communication--The Path to Success."  It was facilitated by Angela Arhip, program coordinator, to teach the students the importance of all aspects of communication and to use it to overcome obstacles.

As part of the communication exercise students shared recent accomplishments with the group.  They found this exercise so valuable that a topic has been planned for the next meeting.  Read more in the newsletter online.

Natalia needs your help:  She is 22 years old and has a difficult life.  Natalia believes that "one day things will change and I'll become another person with another destiny."  Read more about Natalia in the MSP Newsletter online.

Please consider sponsoring Natalia or another student.  Find out how.

We look forward to being a part of your adoption journey!

Sincerely,
