Adopt
 Waiting Child!
An adorable little two year old boy in Haiti is looking for his forever family.  He is described as healthy and was placed in the care of the orphanage prior to the January earthquake.  Families interested in adopting this little boy must have an approved homestudy and meet the current requirements of the Haitian government.

CAS has lots of waiting children.  See more on our Waiting Children page.

For questions about waiting children, contact Angela Jackson, our waiting child coordinator.  She will be able to guide you through the different programs and application.

News to Note July 2010
Greetings!

Our families are great and we hope they have a chance to come to one of our Family Reunion Picnics.  Allie is back from France with updates on the rebuilding in Haiti and new adoption laws.  Waiting children still need families, will you consider one of them?  One of our most successful humanitarian programs, MOSP, has a new coordinator.  Moldova has begun a new Outreach and Intervention Program.  Please remember that summer is the best time to start your adoption and get your homestudy complete while schedules are more flexible.  This also gives you a jump start in getting your paperwork to the country.

Important Program News
Child in Haiti
Haiti:  In June the Haiti Program Coordinator, Allie Weldon, traveled to meet with the director of the Maison des Anges (MDA) crèche (orphanage) and the other agencies working with MDA.  The primary objectives of this meeting were to discuss the rebuilding plans and current adoption news.  During the meeting CAS committed to providing funds for 60 new cribs.  The materials will be purchased in Haiti and locals will build these cribs.  We are actively seeking sponsors for each crib.

We are currently accepting new families in the Haiti program!  During the meeting in June it was discussed that the government is working to process adoptions but their capacity is limited.  Fortunately travel to Haiti is relatively easy and families are welcome, and encouraged, to visit their child while they wait for their adoption to be finalized.
New adoption laws have been passed in Haiti.   It is not known when these changes will be in effect.  Among the changes to the adoption laws include:
  • Single men or women must be between 35-50 years old, singles that have never been married will no longer be eligible to adopt, and they cannot have any children.
  • Married couples must be married for at least 5 years and be between 30-50 years old.  Couples cannot have more than three children.
Please consider sponsoring a crib or applying to adopt one of these beautiful children.  For more information please contact Allie Weldon.

China Waiting Child:  There are nearly 2000 waiting children in need of homes.  Although more and more families enter the WC program nationwide, there will always be more children looking for a home than there are waiting, approved homes. The WC program continues to be one of the quickest international programs from application to travel/placement.

Moldova Outreach & Intervention Program Kicks Off
 MOIP
Looking down a dark street in Chisinau you see a young boy wandering. A few people pass him by.  He asks "can you spare some change?" No response. The streets are so lonely and home is just an empty place. He continues to look for a friendly face as he drifts through the streets. The lights of an all night internet café illuminate the sidewalk, people are inside. He is hungry, tired and lonely.

Children just like this young boy go unnoticed and ignored in Moldova every day. Many children are on their own, without supervision or without parents. Too many children are in the hands of abusers, living in risky situations, or living with families in great need. This is why Carolina Adoption Services is supporting the Outreach and Intervention Project.

Moldova Orphan Sponsoship Program (MOSP) Student is the New Coordinator!
Elena-MOSP
Let's meet Elena-

Hello to everybody! I'm Elena Cret. I'm 21 years old and have completed two years at Moldova State University, studying  Mass Communication , PR & Marketing. My minor is Theatre. I was fortunate enough to have a sponsor these last two years, without whom I would have not been able to attend university.  My sponsors gave me encouragement and showed me that I could do more than I had ever dreamed.  Now, I am grateful for the opportunity to live with my sponsors for one year while I seek sponsors for other students like myself.  Prior to finding a sponsor, I was not sure what the future held for me. I spent 2 years living in Internat X, a state-run boarding school in Moldova. After that, I spent 5 years at Christian Mission Betesda, a Christian Orphanage in Chisinau.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to attend the university and look forward to completing my degree when I return next year. In the meantime, thank you for helping other students like myself, and giving us hope for the future.

If you are interested in learning more about sponsoring a student visit the MOSP page or contact Elena.
Sincerely,
