News to Note September 2009
Greetings!

September is a big transition time for many families as well as CAS.  We are gearing up for the coming months and new year, enjoy reading about some of the things we have in progress.
Grow with CAS!

Carolina Adoption Services is seeking energetic and passionate people from a diverse variety of backgrounds to work on a common goal;  a children's charity, changing the world, one child at a time.  Our need for Board Members includes expertise in finance, fundraising, marketing, and human resources.  This is the perfect opportunity for you to enhance your professional profile and leadership while helping a wonderful organization reach their mission.  Elected terms will begin January 2010 and will last three years.  Board members are passionate about the CAS mission to children and are able to attend regular meetings in Greensboro.  Interested in growing with CAS, contact Rosemary Martin, 336.275.9660.

New China Waiting Child Program!

CAS is excited to announce a new program for "special needs" adoptions from China!  With traditional adoption from China taking almost four years to complete, CAS now has a new opportunity for prospective adoptive parents.  CAS and longtime partner agency, Chrysalis House, Inc., are networking to offer families the Waiting Child (WC) program for adoption of "special needs" children from China.  Our two agencies work closely and provide a team effort to help families have a wonderful adoption experience!  Many of the "special needs" children have correctable or minor medical concerns.  Some have more serious medical problems.  Any child, regardless of health, who is over the age of six years, is automatically classified as a "special needs" child due to his/her age.  Qualified families can apply for Waiting Child program and typically complete their adoption in as little as 12 months!  Please contact Carol Galvin, program coordinator.

Julie Travels to Armenia & Moldova!

A trip to Moldova and Armenia is planned for Assistant Director, Julie Glandt.  Leaving on September 18th, Julie will visit these two small yet important countries.  She will work with agency representatives and government officials to further clarify adoption activity including the laws and Hague process.  She will visit orphanages to see children and hear about the ongoing humanitarian needs.  As always, needs of orphaned and abandoned children in each of these countries are great.  While the majority of children in boarding schools and placement facilities are not available for adoption, these children and their caretakers need support beyond what the government can offer.  If you would like to support this mission trip, please send tax deductible contributions to CAS now.  Please watch our website for more information about Julie's trip.
Post-Adoption Hint!

When your social worker does your post-adoption visit, be sure to give her color photos of your adopted child.  Not only is it a CAS and country requirement, it is a great way to show off the new additions to your family!

Have a question about post-adoption requirements?  Contact Christie or your program coordinator for the answers.

We hope you find these useful.  Look for more Hints & Tips to come in following News to Notes.  Do you have recommendations to other families?  Let Siri Scott know and she will include them in a later issue.
