Making Strides in the Ride for Hope!
|
Greetings!
Every month there seems to be so much happening to share with you!
We often hear from people asking us about attending events in their area and it is challenging to be everywhere we want to be. But, you'll find in this issue that Texas, Georgia, Nevada, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee are represented! If you're hosting an event that you'd like to benefit EAF, let us know and we'll help you make it a big success!
In Nov., we'll be hosting a celebration and launch of EAF's endowment program, which honors legendary horsemen Charlie Weaver. We'll be at the Alltech National Horse Show in the Gracie Street Garden in Lexington, Ky., which seems natural as Charlie was so successful at the National Horse Shows of the past. Join us as we start a new chapter and be part of a legacy that continues to help those in need for years to come.
The EAF is proud to take part in two events coming in October, where we'll be the beneficiary of silent auctions. The first is a country music party, auction and awards hosted by the Women's Horse Industry Network. The second is a BBQ and auction held during the Southeastern Fall Classic Hunter Jumper Show's mini prix near Atlanta. It will be exciting to share EAF's mission and good works with new friends.
Make sure you catch the recaps of the first helmet incentive at the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover and the 3rd Annual Play it Forward Poker Tournament at the High Roller Reining Classic. It's always so much fun to see those highly competitive reining riders take it to the poker table! Visit our facebook page to see some great shots from EAF Friend Alden Corrigan! This event would be impossible without her and Mandi Brumley of Brumley Management Group. Thanks to all for again putting on a terrific show and event. Special thanks to our sponsors FarmVet and an anonymous donor, and to all the wonderful companies that provided a fully stuffed goody bag for the players. See the list with links in the story. As always, thank you for your generous donations and memberships. Thank you for sharing this ride for hope. We would be unable to continue our mission without you.

|
The EAF will be one of four charities to benefit from the Women's Horse Industry Network's (WHIN) Rhythm & Hooves auction, Oct. 6, in Nashville, Tenn. The event, which will include live country music and the inaugural WHINNY awards, is the kick-off for WHIN's three-day annual meeting.
WHINNY award recipients include: animal rights and wild mustang advocate, Madeleine Pickens; charitable horse industry leaders, Elizabeth and William Shatner; horsewoman and advocate country music legend, Lynn Anderson; music industry icons and thoroughbred racing breeders/racers, Mike and Martha Borchetta; horsewoman and advocate singer/songwriter, Templeton Thompson; and animal rights and music industry veteran, Bonnie Garner.

The Rhythm & Hooves auction will be offering a signed guitar by Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow from Curb Records; an autographed DragonCon badge from William Shatner; an autographed "61 hits" by George Strait; a breeding to a son of Seattle Slew by New Swan Farm; and an autographed book from Shania Twain. Madeleine Pickens will be donating a native American choker from artist Travis Jackson, Jr. from the Seminole tribe of Oklahoma. Elizabeth Shatner will be donating auction packages including a "Faire Game Package" including original artwork, her trademarked leather stirrup picture hangers (as seen on American Pickers!), also an "All Glory Package" including both an original portrait and a rare, limited edition autographed Breyer model of All Glory, the Shatner's World Champion American Saddlebred. She will also be donating bottles of her custom-blended Faire Game White wine as door prizes.

EAF Supports Helmet Incentive at Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover
| |
The inaugural Riders4Helmets Safety Incentive held during the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover (SEMM), September 15-17 in Fort Worth, Texas, was a huge success. The SEEM, organized by the Mustang Heritage Foundation, is the richest wild horse competition in history. The competition involves approximately 180 wild horses that competitors have had only 120 days to gentle and train prior to competing for a share of $200,000 in prize money.
The Riders4Helmets Safety Incentive rewarded the highest scoring competitor in each division that wore a certified helmet with $500 cash. An additional $500 (cash and vouchers) was awarded in a random drawing of the remaining helmet-wearing competitors, with the winning name being drawn out of a certified helmet!
The EAF supports Riders4Helmets as an in-kind sponsor to further promote safety and education. Learn more about the Riders4Helmets campaign and safety incentives.

High Roller Reiners Play the Odds At Third Annual "Play it Forward" Poker Tournament
|
 | | 2011 Winner Jeri Allen |
Third time proved a charm for this year's winner of the "Play it Forward Poker Tournament" to benefit the EAF. Jeri Allen of Redwood City, Calif., won the third annual tournament on Sept. 15, at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which is held during the High Roller Reining Classic.
Sponsors for the event included FarmVet, Brumley Management Group and an anonymous donor.
"I have been participating in this event since its inception and for three years I've been trying to win this trophy," said winner Allen. "The EAF is such a great cause and it's such a fun event. This year, Pam Ward of PARW Buckles sponsored me in the tournament. I don't know how I made to the end, but I will keep the trophy and the bragging rights that go with it. I'm prepared to defend my position next year."

Brad Giesbrecht placed second and won a two-night stay certificate donated by South Point Hotel and Casino; Lance Griffin was third; and Tim McQuay, whose picture was featured on this year's poker tournament poster, finished fourth.
"I can't wait to play again next year," said Frank Costantini, past president of the NRHA and RHSF, past chairman of the FEI Reining Committee, member of the NRHA Hall of Fame and Markel Insurance Company representative. "It was truly a great evening and an opportunity to give back to an organization that does so much for Equestrians during their time of need. It is very gratifying for me, who knows a little about fund raising, to see all of the various disciplines coming together as a community to support the Equestrian Aid Foundation."
In addition to fun and lots of laughs, players also received a goody bag provided by Platinum Performance stuffed with items from companies: Arenus, Bayer Animal Health, eZall, FarmVet, Johnson Horse Transportation, Leather CPR, Markel Insurance Company, Merial, National Horse Blankets and Red Horse Equine Arts.
"The poker tournament is a really fun way to bring the competitive edge out of the ring and onto the poker tables," said R. Scot Evans, president of the EAF. "The money raised through this event will assist horsemen from all walks of life and all types of riding."
