Reiners Gamble on their Luck while
Helping Horsemen in Need
LAS VEGAS - The 2nd annual "Play it Forward" Poker Tournament was held Sept. 16 during the High Roller Reining Classic to benefit the Equestrian Aid Foundation (EAF), a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to equestrians and horsemen in need.

again the event was a success, generating thousands of dollars for the EAF. 2009 winner Jim Rygiol, who finished in eighth place this year, graciously passed the
torch to 2010 winner Brandon Seger of Markel Insurance, who was the lone man in
the top three with the most chips.
Seger, who had to be
coaxed into playing said, "The poker tournament was not something I came
here thinking I was going to do ... and I was talked into it ...
fortunately. It was a really good time, and a really good chance to meet
some new people and have some fun, all in the good name of charity." Seger also shared his good fortune, donating a portion of his winnings back to the EAF.

Texas Hold 'Em tournament began with each player receiving $2,500 in
chips. In the end Seger from Southern California had $33,000, Karen
Elliott of Seattle, Wash., had $23,000 and Terri Williamson of Scottsdale,
Ariz., had $21,000.
"I
got lucky. It was a lot of fun with great people," said Elliot. "I wish we could do it every night. What a treat."
Each
player also received a goody bag from Platinum Performance filled with gifts
from Arenus, Leather CPR, Markel Insurance, Merial, Barnes and Noble, Johnson Horse Transportation, Flair Strips, Finish Line, Nutrena and EquiFit, Inc.
Valley Horse News donated advertising for the event. The tournament was hosted by Brumley Management Group and the High Roller Reining Classic.
"I was
overwhelmed by the support of the reining community for horsemen and women in
need," said Sheryl Kursar, managing director of the EAF. "There was a lot of friendly competition at every
poker table and even those (L-R) Terri Williamson, 3rd; Karen Elliott, 2nd; Brandon Seger, 1st. Photo credit: Alden Corrigan | who learned to play just for the event, had a great
time. The dealers were even coaching the newer players on their options. By the
time we were at the final 10 players, all the spectators were on their feet
cheering at every hand.
"This was my first reining event and I was impressed
with how friendly and welcoming everyone was. Brumley Management Group does a
fantastic job keeping the competition running smoothly and efficiently."
