| Making Strides in the Ride for Hope! |
Happy New Year! We hope you've had a wonderful holiday season and are excited for the new year ahead! As you'll read, this fall has been a busy time for the EAF - from coast to coast. The coming year looks promising with lots of fun events on the calendar, starting with the competition season in beautiful Florida. First up is the fabulous Lusitano Auction, which looks to be
an amazing "must-attend" weekend. Followed by Mary Phelps' annual party and auction at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby. Only a few days later, Caitlin Ziegler will reprise her role hosting the Young Riders' Carnival. (Any takers for the dunk tank?) We look forward to seeing you all in the sunshine state! Did you miss EquestriSol's profile on EAF President Scot Evans? Read this wonderful account of the Foundation's history and the need to support our fellow equestrians. Thanks to Jackie and her team at EquestriSol. Traditionally, the holiday season is a time to count our blessings. We are especially grateful for you - our volunteers, members, sponsors and donors. Thank you for your continued support of the EAF and its recipients. |

Celebrating the Holidays with Anthropologie - Dec. 10, 2009 |
Anthropologie's "Socks and 'Shoes" holiday shopping event and auction made gift giving a snap. The fundraiser - sponsored by Anthropologie, The Esse Family, The Macallan, and Stephen Vincent Wines - benefited the Equestrian Aid Foundation (EAF).
Anthropologie has graciously hosted holiday benefits for the EAF in New
York City in the past and this year suggested moving it out of the snow
to Beverly Hills. "We were pleased to once again partner with the EAF
to raise funds to support our community," said CEO of Urban Outfitters
Inc. Glen Senk. "As a horse owner, I am eternally grateful to the
myriad of people who keep my animals fit and healthy, and it is my
pleasure to help those same people in their time of need."

| Honoring Ravel with Steffen Peters - Nov. 5, 2009
|
When he entered the room with his confident style, it became the crowning moment to a spectacular evening. Ravel was among his fans and friends. Guests gathered at the home of Steffen Peters and Ravel
- Arroyo Del Mar Farm in San Diego - to relive the team's
accomplishments of the year, including a clean sweep of the Rolex FEI
World Cup Dressage Finals and the World Equestrian Festival CHIO. The
event lived up to its promise to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime event
featuring a rare video, commentary by Peters, and a visit from Ravel. And at the end of the evening, guests received a keepsake book filled with pictures of Ravel's journey and autographed by Steffen and Ravel.
"I am happy that Ravel can make a contribution to the larger equestrian
community and especially those in need," said Akiko Yamazaki, Ravel's
owner. The event was made possible by the generous contributions of
benefactors The Riggio Foundation and an anonymous donor; event sponsors
Cavalor, Back on Track, Elegant Events Catering Co., Respond Systems,
Horse Tech, Custom Saddlery and Mary's Tack and Feed. Donations were
also made in Ravel's honor by Jessica Ransehousen and Ashley, Connie
and Rick Schrempp.
Proceeds from "Honoring Ravel" benefited the EAF. See the release and photos from the event. Photo by Julie Blair.

performance. These gray horses, all Collection horses sold between 2005
and 2009 and now owned by eight different people, will move in unison
to the tune of lively Brazilian music. Quadrille coordinator Heather
Bender who is also the Director of USA Training - Interagro Farm Export
Program reports that "some will piaffe, do half passes and flying
changes, but the real beauty in a quadrille occurs when the horses are
in sync, a necessity when 'threading the needle' in perfect harmony
across the arena, an audience favorite."
The
Lusitano Collection™ will also auction off a rose gold plateau ring on Friday donated
by the exquisite Italian designer Vhernier to benefit the EAF, its official
charitable partner for the event. On Saturday guests will enjoy a candle-lit dinner with cuisine catered by Christafara's, followed by the exciting professional horse auction from two of the finest breeders in Brazil.

| High Roller Reining Poker Tournament Date Set For 2010
|
Come see the bright lights of Las Vegas for the second annual "Play it Forward" poker tournament set for Thurs., Sept. 16, 2010 at the South Point Hotel and Casino. It's fun and you don't even have to be a pro! Just ask this year's winner Jim Rygiol, of Monterey, Calif., who out-smarted 40 other players to claim the
hotly contested victory.
"It was very scary because I'm a beginner and this is my first
tournament," commented Rygiol. "I was shaking on the first table on the
first hand, so the whole time I was thinking please don't let them see
my shaking hand."
Rygiol has a horse named Pine Whizin that competed with Gabe Davide at the
High Roller Reining Classic, and he found out about the tournament
through the horse show management. "The management was so enthusiastic
that beginners could go ahead and try, and we like to give to charities
so we decided to give it a shot," smiled Rygiol.
Special thanks to the 2009 event sponsors FarmVet and Pfizer Animal Health. Read the release. Learn more about the High Roller Reining Classic.
