The Yolk's on YouEggs

Are you confused about eggs?  If so, you're not alone.  We hear how great eggs can be for our bodies, but then we hear that they're high in cholesterol, which leaves us wondering. . . To Eat, or Not to Eat?

The Egg Yolk Dilemma.

Although egg yolks contain a relatively high cholesterol content, they are one of the few foods that contain all of the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and they are also a great source of high-quality protein.

The American Heart Association recommends that adults limit their yolk consumption to no more than four per week.  This provides us with enough of the protein and vitamins that our bodies need, without the risk of consuming too much cholesterol.

One way to keep your consumption of egg yolks down, while increasing flavor, is to mix one yolk in with several egg whites.

THE BOTTOM LINE. . . EAT YOUR EGGS!

DOES EATING AFTER A WORKOUT HINDER WEIGHT LOSS?Apples

Yes and No!

For individuals or athletes who perform strenuous activities/workouts, post-workout refueling and re-hydration is crucial to help replenish lost glycogen stores and help repair muscle tissue.  The best way to refuel is to consume complex carbohydrates and lean protein.

For individuals who exercise at only a moderate intensity level, who have the goal of losing weight, maintaining a caloric deficit after exercise is important, so keeping post-workout snacking to a minimum is very important.

THE BOTTOM LINE. . . REFUELING AFTER EXERCISE IS IMPORTANT, BUT DON'T EAT TOO MUCH IF YOU'RE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT.
