Dream Big Team Gymnasts Prepare for State Championships
by Shannon Hughey Cornicelli

Emma

The 2011-2012 gymnastics season is culminating with the State Championships in just a few weeks.  Dream Big is looking to make its best showing at the championships since its first season in 2008. The pressure is on for the Level 3 Team this meet.  Last year's level 3 team swept the whole meet and took first place as a team.  This season the Level 3 team scored a 111 at the WDGA meet.  This beat last year's season high score.  This season the Level 3 team won the Halloween Meet and the Winter Carnival.  They came in second at the Mardi Gras Meet with a score of 110.25.  Renaissance came in first with a score of 111.25.  Dream Big was missing two key gymnasts, Victoria Minicucci and Allison Humphries.  Coach Amy and Coach Katie are confident that with these two talented athletes back in the line-up they will give everybody a run for their money!  Keep your eye on the following Level 3 gymnasts to score big and go home with some medals and trophies:

Name       -     All Around Score from Mardi Gras Meet
Emma Gladziszewski - 36.95
Franziska Bourget -  36.7
Morgan Ballou -  35.7
Isabella Nicholson - 35.4
Julia Sousa - 35.1
Lily Davis - 34.85
Emily Wynne - 34.75
Olivia Pitocchi - 34.35
Amber Bianchi - 33.6
Madison Cournoyer - 33.5
Maia Riccio - 32.45
Antonia Bourget - 32.15
Marissa Lamarre - 32.1
Allyson Humphries - 33.45 (Winter Carnival)
Victoria Minicucci - 32.3 (Winter Carnival)

The Level 4 Team has made a name for themselves around town this season.  They are no stranger to winning.  Current gymnasts, Lia Dietrich and Madison Diko were on the Level 3 team that won states last year.  This season the team won the Halloween Meet with a score of 107.75, the Winter Carnival with a score of 110.15, and the Mardi Gras Meet with a score of 110.5.  They placed 3rd at the Rhode Island Invitational (107.475), 4th at the Manhattan Classic.  This year the state is dividing the team into Large and Small teams.  Dream Big will fall into the Small team category.  A Team to watch out for will be Gems Gymnastics who beat Dream Big at the Rhode Island Invitational by scoring a 108.275.  Dream Big has beat this score at recent meets.  Coach Shannon will be looking for her gymnasts to perform their best routines of the season in order to end up on top.  Here are the most recent achievements from the Level 4 team:

Sydney Talabac - Mardi Gras AA Champion - 36.5
Emily Whitlock - Mardi Gras AA Champion - 36.35
Samantha Petrarca - RI Invitaional AA Champion - 36.65 - Manhattan Classic Floor Champion - 9.25
Danae Metts - RI Invitational Bar Champion - 9.475 - High AA Score - 35.875
Madison Diko - AA High Score - 32.1
Lia Dietrich - AA High Score - 34.85

Dream Big's lone Level 6 gymnast, Channon Howland is sure to turn some heads.  She is a fierce competitor and knows how to turn it on under pressure.  She is the Mardi Gras Champion with a 32.15 All Around.  Coach Shannon is looking for her to beat her best AA score, a 34.05 from the Manhattan Classic, in order to win at states.  Channon is the Level 4 Floor Champion of 2010.  Be sure to come out and support Channon at States.  She shines when she has her fans in the stands cheering for her!

Two Level 7 gymnasts, Samantha Whitaker and Emma Meharg, are peaking at just the right time in the season.  Emma's strength is Floor and Vault.  Her long beautiful lines on Floor and her graceful choreography give her an advantage on her competition.  Sam's amplitude on her jumps and tumbling are her biggest asset.  Both girls take a leadership role in the gym and push the younger ones to work hard.  They are always on the honor role at school despite spending up to 16 hours per week in the gym.  They are the epitome of the All Around gymnast.  Coach Shannon is looking for Emma to place on Floor and Vault, and for Sam to place on Beam and Vault.

The Prep Op Team is led by Coach Kori.  Her athletes are training very hard in the gym these past few weeks.  The Jr. Novice team won the Mardi Gras Meet, beating East Bay by just .25 points.  The Jr. Novice team includes:

Aricely Tavares - Mardi Gras Champion - 36.8 All Around
Michaella Pinga - Mardi Gras Champion - 35.65 All Around
Jaime Anderson - 34.45 All Around High
Alessandra Martellini - Mardi Gras Champion - 36.45 All Around
Giana Cappelli - 33.7 All Around High

The Novice Team won the Winter Carnival Meet with a score of 110.15.  They are hoping to do this again in the state championships.  Girls to thank for their tremendous work this season are:

Anna Bagdasaryan - Mardi Gras Champion - 36.3 AA
Krysta Calabro - 34.45 AA
Maria Vose - 34.05 AA
Anna Harrington - 33.55 AA
Caroline Carbone - 32.2 AA

Our Boys Team shocked their parents and even their coaches at the Ocean State Clasic last weekend at Twin Rivers.  They did an amazing job! Coached by Kyle Spencer, this new team put Dream Big Boys team on the map.

Matthew Curtis - Ocean State Classic Rings and High Bar Champion (14.7, 13.2), 5th All Around (76.7)
Christopher Buonaccorsi - Ocean State Classic Vault Champion (15.0), 73.2 AA
Sam Lotter - 67.0 All Around
Alexander Belford - 5th Place Floor at Ocean State Classic - 70.9 All Around

Dream Big boasts 38 gymnasts on their roster.  For the first time all 38 gymnasts qualified to the State Championships by scoring the 32.0 All Around qualifying score.  Dream Big has won more team awards this year than any other year and has more Event and All Around Champions at major international meets than ever before.  Be on the look out for the exact meet times for the state meets.  We hope that you can make it!  Make sure to wear your orange and blue and support Dream Big gymnasts at this year's championships.
