Spirit ships first set of composite fuselage panels for Airbus A350-XWB

KINSTON, N.C., Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirit AeroSystems Inc., [NYSE: SPR] the world's largest independent supplier of commercial airplane assemblies and components, has shipped the first production composite center fuselage panels for the Airbus A350 XWB program out of its Kinston, N.C., facility. The Section 15 fuselage panels are being sent to Saint-Nazaire, France, where final upper shell assembly will occur.

Antonov arrives to assist with Spirit shipment

Spirit utilized the Antonov 124, one of the world's largest aircraft, for the company's first shipment of fuselage components for the Airbusin A350 XWB to France. The GTP's 11,500-foot runway easily accomodated landing and take off of the Russian-made air cargo plane. The 65-foot fuselage panels were loaded into the Antonov using the loading apron adjacent to Spirit's 600,000 square-foot manufacturing facility.

Spirit will ship fuselage and wing components to Europe for final assembly utilizing both air freight and ocean shipments from the Port of Morehead City. The use of the Antonov demonstrates the unique capabilities of the Global TransPark to support multi-modal logistics and manufacturing operations.
