Given the continued increase in activity at the Global TransPark, we are now circulating its e-newsletter monthly rather than quarterly. While many of you are familiar with our newsletter, others may be receivng it for the first time. Our goal is regular and broad communication about the development of GTP and its efforts in fostering employment and investment growth in our targeted industries: aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and emergency and disaster relief. As representatives of business, government, academia, economic development and as engaged citizens, the GTP relies on your support and counsel to help us grow, achieve our performance measures and enhance the economic well-being of North Carolinians. Antonov arrives to assist with Spirit shipment
| Antonov An-124.mov |
Spirit utilized the Antonov 124, one of the world's largest aircraft, for the company's first shipment of fuselage components for the Airbusin A350 XWB to France. The GTP's 11,500-foot runway easily accomodated landing and take off of the Russian-made air cargo plane. The 65-foot fuselage panels were loaded into the Antonov using the loading apron adjacent to Spirit's 600,000 square-foot manufacturing facility.
Spirit will ship fuselage and wing components to Europe for final assembly utilizing both air freight and ocean shipments from the Port of Morehead City. The use of the Antonov demonstrates the unique capabilities of the Global TransPark to support multi-modal logistics and manufacturing operations.
