Thank You

Hope Free Church,  We wish to thank you all for remembering us in this time of need.  The plant you sent is beautiful.  Thank you, Linda Norris & family

Dear Hope Free Church,  Thanks for all your prayers, thoughts and support.  I'm stationed near the ancient city of Ur, here in Iraq.  I've been able to visit the ancient city twice and the Euphrates River once.  I'm looking forward to finishing up our tour and getting back to my family.  John Bourdeaux (son-in-law of Ed & Ruth Kipp)

Dear Hope Family,  Thank you so much for the lovely plant.  Thank you more importantly for all your prayers, thoughtfulness and cards you have given us.  As we go through this time of change and adjustment we have great peace and joy knowing Dad is home with his Savior and Lord.  Thank you again, Ed & Ruth Kipp for the Demar Kipp Family

White Cross Update

anderson gardens long
Sharon Vinson & Connie Ruden, Coordinators

The two White Cross work days in March were very productive, completing six more quilts for Rockford Rescue Mission. The needs there have been greater than ever lately so pray for their ability to keep up with the need and your part in helping in some way, too.

We will soon begin a project for GlobalFingerprints, sewing 550 pair of straps for backpacks that will be completed later this summer for orphans in the Congo.

Our April workdays are Tuesday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 20, from 8-12 in Drake Hall so do plan to join us. We'll be tying quilts, sewing bandages, cutting out dresses for the dress kits, cutting materials for receiving blankets and quilt tops, etc.  Just bring your scissors and come enjoy some fellowship with other willing workers for Jesus.

Our needs this month include:

Blankets & mattress pads for inside of quilts (do watch the spring garage sales)

Lightweight flannel for receiving blankets in 1-yd. increments

Rickrack, bias tape, thread, small scissors, pins and needles to include in the dress kits

Gallon storage bags (ziploc style)

Sheets, sheets, & more sheets for quilt backs (flat, any color)

Campbell's labels for education (for local schools)

We look forward to seeing many workers make a difference in God's kingdom as we try to supply for the needs of those in Haiti, Congo, Tanzania, Bosnia, Romania, Mongolia, and more.Won't you join our efforts in helping the poor wherever God sends us.

Update on Sheri Leasure:

As many of you know, Sheri is back in Mozambique and settling into her life overseas once again.  She is well and she is joyfully adjusting to the culture and lifestyle there!  Sheri keeps busy with planning lessons for the Old Testament classes she teaches.  She definitely takes her time preparing engaging lessons...her students are so blessed to have her as a teacher. Sheri's "pet" lizard named Zeus keeps her company and although she enjoys comsuming rice and bean meals, Sheri admits to missing certain food and beverage items from the states such as Coca Cola, etc.  Sheri soaks up all the wonderful aspects of living in Africa and regularly shares her thoughts and experiences on facebook as well as her blog(www.sherileasure.blogspot.com).  After suffering from the effects of drought, God has graciously showered Mozambique with glorious rain...and lots of it...yeah!  Sheri thanks everyone for their faithful prayers and support.  The following is a excerpt that Sheri posted on her blog:

You Know You're in Mozambique When...

1. You see a goat riding a bicycle and think nothing of it.
2. You celebrate because the high temperature was only 87 degrees instead of 90.
3. You carry a capulana (wrap skirt) folded in your purse.
4. You have another capulana on the nail by the front door, one in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, etc.
5. You sleep under a capulana because the temperature dropped from 90 to 87 degrees and you feel slightly chilled.
6. You know several lizards by sight and have named at least one.
7. Your daily prayer items include such inanimate things as: your water tank, your gas tank, your electricity, your plumbing, and your internet connection. (You pray for people too, of course, but I am trying to make a point!)
8. When you take out your trash to toss in the trash pile on the side of the road, you take care not to disturb the multitude of chickens.
9. You are adept at dodging puddles and potholes and children and bicycles while walking to work.
10. You navigate purely by landmarks like trees, the color of buildings, groves of sugar cane, familiar-looking goats and other such things. After all, who needs street signs?
11. You write lists like this just to amuse your friends and family back home and to let them know that you're doing ok!!

Let's keep Sheri in our thoughts and prayers as she continues to honor the Lord and touch lives with His love, peace, and truth in Mozambique!

Hey ya'll! What an exciting winter: 2 months of "Worldliness", V-Day dessert buffet and our Wednesday "creation" discussions as well as our Thursday "Transformational Servant Leadership" training continue! Best of all, we've had teens make decisions to trust God's leading in their lives, jettison worldly baggage, commit to mission trips and ministry incentives and even clean out their closets! Praise Jesus! If you'd like to get in on all the excitement; just give Andy a call (507) 202-2422, e-mail pastorandy@hefc.net or find him on facebook!

28 APR: our last "creation" session together and we're inviting you to bring a friend and join us for "Expelled" the movie. We'll start at 7 pm in the "Upper Room" with refreshments and the film and then stick around a while for the Q & A open forum. This is a family friendly place to openly discuss all kinds of perspectives on creation, open theism, theistic evolution, your biology class and much more!

Lots of exciting events coming soon to a family near you! All summer we'll be meeting off and on in our youth family's homes - that means bonfires, big-screen TVs, serious snackage (like s-mores), basketball, volleyball and Frisbees!

Also once a month we're going to be featuring a movie that comes highly recommended from Andy: April 28 (Expelled - with an open Q & A forum following), May (Faith Like Potatoes), June (Amazing Grace), July (Time Changer), August (Facing the Giants - our school-year kick-off for our Fall sermon series, "Is God Your Personal Trainer?"), September (the last movie of the season relevant to our series, "Chariots of Fire"). You know you're gonna watch movies, eat popcorn and have fun this summer anyway - why not pick a family that really "needs to get out more" and do it together! APR-JUN will all be on Wednesday nights - check our blog, newsletters, and "Upper Room" listings for dates and times!

Check our sign-ups in the foyer for BUMP and rent-a-teen! Our team is small but growing and our time is running out! Also, if you'd like the teens out at your house this summer - our usual first-come-first-served routine goes along with our sign-up in the foyer. You can make special arrangements directly with Ed Moreland, Andy Wallman or even call the office and leave word with Dana or Carolyn when you'd like to have them out. This is a great opportunity for networking our students in the community so hurry - the spots fill up fast!

Don't get confused!! We still have student ministry opportunities for students to come out and help with service projects this Spring, Summer and Fall. These will be different than the rent-a-teen incentive for BUMP. When you contact Andy Wallman to set up a job with him just indicate whether or not it's a paid job and he'll set you up with either a BUMPer or members of the youth group will come out to serve. It's all to the praise of His glory anyway so don't wait - give us a chance to serve you this summer!

18 APR: Parents, students (and those interested in leadership): it's time, once again, for our semi-annual parent/student/leader luncheon. April 18th we meet right after our Sunday morning gathering (around 12:00 noon) for a bit of prayer, fellowship and good food. Immediately following, we cover up-coming events, introductions, some updates from our teachers and leadership and open the floor for questions and prayer requests. The whole thing usually lasts only about an hour and a half. Please come and support Hope student ministries.

Finally, please help us with coordinating our needs for our new youth intern, Andrew Voigt. He's going to be working closely with a few of our students that are interested and have been training in student ministry this past year - including Kainah Carroll and Josh Schwenk. Andrew is coming from the new pastoral ministries program at Northwestern College, St. Paul, and is looking for paid work while he's here helping Hope Student Ministries. Also, we'd like to "farm" him out to folks who are interested in having him stay in their homes for a few weeks at a time. He's only here from the 1st week of June till the middle of August so grab him while you can. Contact Andy Wallman.

Senior Saints

April 13, 12 Noon

This is your reminder to call Betty Alexander (815-623-2336) to reserve your spot for a delicious meal and enjoyable fellowship at our monthly Senior Saints luncheon.  By request, Pastor Ken and Sherie will be singing and weaving the devotional within the songs.  Invite your friends to come with you.  We have a good time every month.  Next month is the annual "grilling" and we have asked our Pastoral staff to act as our chefs once again.  That means you will be asked to order your meat at this luncheon so we have just the right amount of hot dogs, brats and hamburgers.  Thanks.

Creation Museum Trip April 29 - May1, 2010

MAXlife (First EFC, Rockford's seniors ministry) is organizing a Creation Museum Trip April 29 - May1, 2010.  They are inviting Hope seniors to join them.  A deposit of $100 per person is due as soon as possible because seating is limited.  The full amount must be paid in full by April 11th .   Pastor Ken Bergstedt has the brochure describing the details, and the registration form that must be filled out.  They are traveling on a Van Galder coach, leaving from First Free at 8 am on Thursday April 29th.  They are staying at the Courtyard Inn and are also taking an Ohio River Paddleboat Dinner Cruise in addition to spending Friday, April 30th at the Museum.  They will return to Rockford on Saturday May 1 around 5 PM.   This is a great opportunity to get to know some of God's family from another church.  Cost is $250 double occupancy.  $340 single occupancy.  This covers transportation, two nights lodging, dinner on the cruise and at the museum,  and admission to the museum.

To learn more about this wonderful museum, visit their web site:  www.creationmuseum.org.

 A Celebration of Hope

anderson gardens long
Coming Sat, April 24th  at 7pm & Sun, April 25th  at 10am....Mark your calendars now to include "A Celebration of Hope" Spring Concert -  presented by our Celebration Choir, Orchestra ensemble, Guitar Praise Band & Teen Choir.  Join us as we celebrate what God has done for us!  This will be a concert full of life and encouragement for both believers and unbelievers.  The days/times are once again arranged in such a way that makes it ideal for you to invite friends, family, neighbors or co-workers you have been praying for and dialoging with.  How about dinner at your home followed by the concert Saturday night - or dessert together after the concert?  For Sunday, the 10:00 time creates an ideal time frame to fellowship with your guests after the concert for lunch either at your home or "out".  In any case, be praying now about whom you will bring.

You won't want to miss it!

We're gonna have a great time!

Biblical Virtue to Pray for our Kids - During this Resurrection season let us pray that our children will experience salvation.  "Lord, let salvation spring up within my children, that they may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory" (Is 45:8, 2 Tim 2:10

AWANA    AWANA is in the home stretch but we're not slowing down.  With closing ceremonies scheduled for April 26 we press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us.  I am amazed as I look back over the year at the number of verses that have been learned and the number of visitors we have had the privilege of welcoming into God's house.  As always we really appreciate all the prayers offered for this ministry.  Please pray specifically for our AWANA leaders as Satan continues to attack, attempting to deceive or distract us from spreading the gospel.  We also ask you to pray for families as we continue to see an erosion in respect for Gods sovereignty being modeled and taught within the family.  We know God answers prayer.  We have seen many examples of God's faithfulness this year and received many answers to prayer.  As we head into the final weeks of club for this year we want to pause and offer praise to God for all that he has done, for all that he has provided, and for all that he is going to do.
