WHITE CROSS UPDATE
Sharon Vinson & Connie Ruden, Coordinators

Thanks be to God for the White Cross workers and donators.  As we close another fiscal year, plans are in the works to change some of our thrust since rolled bandages are not being requested any further.  We have started making dress and short kits for African children and young adults.  To help us with this effort, we continue to need lightweight cotton material, thread (even partially used spools), small scissors, straight pins, needles, and trim items (rickrack, bias tape, etc.)

During June, July, and August, we will be holding only one workday per month on the first Tuesday of each month.  The June workday is scheduled on Tuesday, June 2,, in Drake Hall.  Please come and join us for whatever portion of the 8-12 noon time period.

Please remember White Cross when you visit those garage sales, especially for items for quilt insides (mattress pads, old blankets) and flat sheets for quilt backs.  We also need new flannel for layettes (1 yd. per receiving blanket).  Thanks for ALL you are doing to make this ministry successful and helpful to those in need.

Senior Saints
will be making their June pilgrimage to Hawk's View Restaurant on Tuesday, June 9th at 12 Noon.  Please note that it might seem like it is coming early, but it is still the second Tuesday of the month.  Call Betty Alexander (815-623-2336) to let us know you are coming, so we can notify the restaurant.  Pastor Ken will give the devotions.  There may be a special musical presentation for your enjoyment at the end of the meal.

Israel
ISRAEL  in 2010

This announcement
is to let you know that Pastor Ken and Sherie are trying to recruit
a tour of the
Holy Land for the Fall of next year.  We are contemplating extending the typical tour of ten days to fourteen.  This would result in a 50% increase in the actual number of days you spend touring the sites, while only adding a few hundred dollars to the over all total for the trip.  If you are interested in seeing Israel, we would love to have you join us.  The approximate cost will be $4,000 including air fare, hotel rooms (double occupancy), breakfast and dinner every day, all entrance fees and tips, and some money for personal purchases (lunches and things to bring home).  The date is not set yet, but you would need to begin making payments on your total trip early in 2010.  We hope at least 25 of you will sign up and invite a friend to go with you.  Forty would put us on a nice big touring bus over there. You will never read your Bible the same again.  Just ask someone who has been there!

Missions Report
For many years HEFC through the Mission's board has supported the ministry work of Timber-lee. Timber-lee, located outside of East Troy, Wisconsin, offers a Christian camping experience with a wide  range of activities to various age groups over the course of the summer. Over the years countless numbers of boys and girls have come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and have grown in their faith as a result of this wonderful ministry.
As a new season of camping approaches here is a list of their prayer requests. Let's remember to hold their ministry up the Lord on a regular basis.
1)      Pray that camper weeks will be filled.
2)      Pray that campers will come prepared to receive God's message.
3)      Pray that the summer programs will impact each camper where they need to be challenged to grow in Christ.
4)      Pray for spiritual transformation and growth in each person they serve.
5)      Pray for meaningful relationships to be built.
6)      Pray that campers would experience God in a new and fresh way that will impact them for many years to come.
7)      Pray for the learning experiences at the camp that they may be fruitful in the lives of each that participates.
8)      Pray for the development team to build strong relationships as they connect with past, current, and future ministry partners.
9)      Pray for an increase in financial support to the camp.
10)  Ask God what role He may have for you play in the ministry of Timber-lee whether it would volunteering your time, financial support, or possibly becoming part of the prayer chain.
Let's recognize and prayerfully remember our Hope kids who will be spending a week at Timber-lee this summer.

 Library News

Thanks to all of you who helped put barcode labels on all 6500+ resources last month - what a big job!  We are now able to use the barcode scanner to check out resources, which completes our software transition.  Thanks for all of your patience while we made these changes.  Please stop by and "check out" our new system.  :)

Please remember that we are re-registering all families with the new software.  If you registered several years ago, it's time to register again. Pick up a registration form on the library desk.

We are still looking for a few volunteers to train as Library Aides (or substitutes).  Library Aides help patrons check out materials on Sunday mornings - and each shift lasts only a few minutes each month.  Training is provided.  Please contact Shannon at hefclibrary@gmail.com or (815) 494-9470 if you're interested.  Thanks!

Welcome to SUMMER... when school is out - church is in! What a fantastic, God-given opportunity to be outside, talking with friends and sharing the gospel message of Good News all over Roscoe! I hope you're all as excited as I am to get out there and be a blessing, be an encouragement and see the Holy Spirit guide our steps, provide our words and change hearts and lives! Yay!

We just had a great April and May with Hope student ministries. Seventh and Eighth grade BRICK class winds down with their projects in Last Testament studies (Life and Ministry of Christ) and they look forward to First Testament studies in the Fall (keep your antennae up for details in AUG). Sixth grade Discovery Zone with Bruce Peterson also winds down as we look forward to bringing our 6-8 graders all back together again for the summer. The Answers In Genesis study with the Moore's for senior high also will come to a close at the end of MAY and Andy Wallman will once again be teaching high school summer session Sunday morning.
Our "Prom Alternative" was a tremendous success! The teens that went truly had the experience of a lifetime. Wearing our formals while strolling around downtown Rochester, MN was exciting as well as dining at Victoria's (fine Italian cuisine). We visited the gardens of the Plummer House for our pics (you can check out the great albums our students put together on facebook), hit the Mall of America and premiered a new movie. As if all that wasn't exciting enough, we got in on one of the best apologetic conferences for students in the world - The Worldview Academy! And that's not all... (now it's starting to sound like one of those info-mercial promos). Perhaps our greatest highlights were teaming up with the Grace Church youth group for much of our adventures and later worshipping in downtown St.Paul with the Hayden Heights Baptist youth group on Sunday morning! The Holy Spirit built relationships between these students that made road-tripping in "Wally's White Whale" the most memorable occasion of high school! Praise Jesus!!
Our BUMPers have been busy praying and preparing for JUL 09 with their summer ministry opportunity at Riverside Evangelical Free Church, MLPS, MN. "Reality Check" is our theme and sharing the gospel is our scheme! Please pray for us. Here are the major events up and coming:

Teen Choir Presentation
Do you struggle at all with relationships?  With family members, friends, even God?  You'll want to be here as our own Teen Choir presents a musical drama presentation with a theme of Relationships.  The musical will be presented here at Hope on Sunday morning June 14th at 9:00 & 10:30.  Invite a friend!  Invite many friends!  In the meantime, be praying for them as they complete preparations.  Thanks!

MANY THANKS
to our Celebration Choir & Teen Choir Members for their faithful service during the 2008-2009 Choir Season.  Also a huge thank you to our faithful childcare team- you know who you are.  We couldn't have effective rehearsal without your ministry.

L
ooking Ahead....

The weekend of December 11-13 we will presenting a major Christmas musical called "Canticle of Christmas".  We would like people to be able to invite guests with the intention of spending time with your guests before or after the concert (maybe have a meal together afterwards, opening up the possibility for meaningful dialogue following the performance). There will be one performance on Friday night, one on Saturday night, and one on Sunday morning.  Be praying for us now as we begin to make preparations.  Pray for:  1)Staffing needs - this is a big musical and will require sufficient voices both male and female.  If you can carry and tune, love to sing and love the Lord, consider joining the Celebration Choir this Fall.  2) God's wisdom and guidance in preparing the presentation.  3) That God will show us what tools to use for effective advertisement and that the people in the church will begin reaching out even now by praying for unsaved neighbors and friends.

We will start Celebration Choir up again in the FALL.  If you love the Lord & love to sing, consider joining us!  Leading worship together is a very special experience and of course, being part of the Christmas Musical is always a blessing!  Be looking for a sign-up at the end of July. We will begin rehearsing the last Thursday in August.  Contact Pat Noble if you have questions.

Ministry Needs:

The Choir will be seeking childcare workers for Thursday nights.  If you are willing and able to participate in this ministry, we seek persons willing to serve one Thursday night a month, September through mid-May (with a break mid- Dec to mid-January)  The time frame is generally 6:50-8:20.  Contact Pat Noble if interested in serving.

Love the Lord & play a brass or woodwind instrument?  Contact Pat Noble (623-6545)  or Jerry Disney (389-4380) for information about playing in our CELEBRATION BAND.  We would love to have you join us!  We welcome & encourage all qualified, interested participants, but would especially be grateful for additions in the clarinet & French horn sections.

Kids of Hope

anderson gardens longBiblical Virtue to Pray for our Kids - As our children begin summer vacation and have more free time, let's pray that they will grow in self-discipline.  "Father, I pray that my children may acquire a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair" (Proverbs 1:3)

Preschool
Having a fully staffed preschool program makes it possible for parents to leave their children while they attend Worship and ABF's and not worry about them.   It also makes it much easier for visiting families to feel comfortable here at Hope.  We still have a few "holes" to plug at the 10:30 hour before we can say we are "fully staffed" for the summer.  Please pray with me that God would raise up the last few people we need.

Elementary
This summer we'll be doing a program called Journey's with Jesus.  Our children will "journey" to the Holy Land to follow in Jesus' footsteps. They'll meet the people Jesus met, hear His words, witness His actions, and see what a difference it made in the people's lives. Our kids will get to follow Jesus all the time from when He was 12, until He ascended into Heaven.

Chris Fosler will be coordinating the summer Sunday School program.

Worship for Kids
We continue to see growth in the numbers of kids attending Worship for Kids during the 10:30 service.  A lot of new families to the church come to the 10:30 service until they are ready to attend both an ABF and Worship service.  This means that we also need more adult leaders for Worship for Kids.  If you think God may be calling you to this ministry in the fall, summer is a great time to check it out.  Call Candy Tichgelaar at 815-540-9238.

VBS registration begins May 31st in the narthex between services.  Or stop in the church office during the week.  Cost is $10.00 per child, maximum of $25.00 per family.  If you know of anyone for whom the cost will be a problem, please talk to the registration people.

The preschool program is for kids who are 3 years old and potty trained through those going into kindergarten in the fall.  Vicky Steege is coordinating the Preschool program.  She may be reached at 815-713-4882

The elementary program is for kids who have finished kindergarten through 5th grades.  The directors are Sarah Haggerty (815-270-0254) and Trisha Knaul (815-389-8527).

Please save one pound plastic peanut butter jars and lids for a craft.  They may be brought in to the church office at any time.  Also, don't forget to check the donation board in the narthex.

This year all VBS attendees and their families are invited to "Camp Out" overnight at the church Friday night after the closing picnic and rally.  You will be allowed to choose between camping in your tent on the lawn, in your camper in the parking lot, or in sleeping bags in a church classroom.  Parents MUST come with their children in order to attend the overnight and members of each family must be together overnight.

We will need several people to help with the picnic and as "camp hosts" during the campout.  Call Vera Juhlin at 815-623-6545 if interested.

As I look back on serving in AWANA, I see that this ministry has been blessed with so much. AWANA has always been blessed with a wonderful group of servants who choose to make Monday nights the time they help in discipling young boys and girls for Christ. You all have been a priceless asset. The Hope Church family has done much to support AWANA-we are so thankful for all you have done and continue to do. We thank the other ministry groups in the church for coming alongside us to volunteer time, efforts and money so that, in turn, we can come alongside our AWANA families in their walk with Christ. I truly have been blessed by the many, leaders, directors, verse listeners, clubbers and Vera Juhlin, especially when they share their own stories of victory as they choose to be obedient to Him.  What a joy, as well as a huge season of growth, I have experienced in my last 10 years of serving in AWANA. With some sadness, but also anticipation, I am stepping down as AWANA Commander. God has placed a different call on me for now and I am most excited about what He has planned. Karen Platzbecker, Awana Commander

As we close out another year we pause to praise God that 10 young people accepted Christ.  15 new leaders and LITs experienced the joy of serving Him through this unique program, and several new families were exposed to God's love.  We also want to express a huge thanks to all of the veteran leaders and LITs that God used this past year as living examples of Christ's love walking among us.  God is moving and growing His family through AWANA. As we prepare to continue this exciting journey with God this fall, there are opportunities for several more people to join our team.  Are you ready to experience the power of God in a new and exciting way in your life?  Join us on the Ultimate Adventure and contact one of the following for more information.
