Staying Involved in the Environmental Community:
Babcock Labs attends multiple conferences over the past few months
The end of summer marks the beginning of quite a few conferences in the industry. Within the past two months, Babcock staff members have participated in several including those held by the California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA), the National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC) and The NELAC Institute (TNI), and the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA).
"We want to hear about the latest developments in the NELAC regulations and to learn about upcoming environmental monitoring technology," said Laboratory Director of Operations Susie Thomas in reference to Babcock's attendance at the NEMC and TNI Environmental Measurement Symposium this past August. "We are also able to voice our opinion and participate in the process of changing and shaping the TNI regulations that affect us directly. Several of our staff serve on TNI committees which have met over the course of the year via teleconference. These committees hold sessions during the conference to report on their progress, get input, and complete tasks necessary for moving forward." TNI is the organization that facilitates Babcock Labs' certification program and its technical and methodological seminars are both valuable and constructive. Babcock Labs Receives ACIL Seal of Excellence Award
Award received by only 21 Laboratories Nationwide!
On October 10, 2011, ESB was awarded the 2011 Seal of Excellence Award by the American Council of Independent Laboratories at the ACIL Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. Developed in 1996 to address the industry's quality issues and recognize those laboratories with exemplary quality performance, the SOE Program also provides laboratory data users with a mechanism to evaluate testing laboratories. Participants commit to ensuring data integrity, meeting customers' quality needs and setting performance standards for the testing laboratory industry. No other evaluation program ranks customer satisfaction with laboratory service and requires laboratory management to commit to a data integrity program. |

ESB Lab Tip
Stormwater Season Begins October 1!
Starting October 1st "Wet Season" officially begins. If you have an industrial permit issued by one of the California Regional Water Quality Control Boards you will need to sample 2 rain events between October 1st and May 30th. As California rains can be very unpredictable, we suggest ordering a stormwater kit from the laboratory well in advance so that you can be prepared when a storm arrives. The preservatives in the bottles have a long shelf life, so they will keep over an extended period of time. For more information or to order bottles, please contact your Project Manager.
