Good Morning Urban League Young Professionals,
Last week, myself along with the board of this great
organization met, and in this meeting we discussed how we can continue to
strive to make this organization better than what it is already? Unanimously, we all agreed that we need the
participation of more than the board, and the usual suspects that we see at our
meetings and/or events.
I appreciate those members that attend meetings and events
regularly, and I look to them just like I do the board for their insight,
leadership and comments, and they like the board agree that they want to see
more member participation.
We have over 200 members in our chapter. This is the greatest number of members that
we have ever had! Although, this is a
great accomplishment, what exactly does this mean? Well, let me ask you a couple of questions
for you to fathom over as a member:
-
Why
did I become a member of the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals?
- I
am doing all that I can as a member of this organization?
- Is
this organization providing me with all that I thought it would?
- What
can I do to add to the strength of this movement?
- Where
do I see myself going with this organization; board, national board, etc.?
- Can
I do more than what I'm currently doing; contributing to the involvement of this
chapter?
- What
would I do differently if I were in a leadership role in this chapter?
Take a minute to deliberate about these questions, and
ask yourself if this is what you expect for yourself?
This is an organization of leaders, and we want to provide
you with a platform to showcase your talents, strengths and leadership
abilities.
There is no greater time to be involved with this movement,
but many of you are missing out on all that is going on locally as well as
nationally!
I encourage you to seriously consider your involvement, and
where you see yourself, because this movement is driven by us the 'Young
Professionals', and the Milwaukee Chapter is one of the best chapters in the
country, and we don't want you to miss this great opportunity for leadership
development, and building a national network of other like-minded young
professionals like yourselves.
Time is all that I am asking for. I fully understand the demands in our
personal lives, I have them as well, but we make time for those things that we
care about, and I sometimes feel like we are not getting all we can from you.
Join me in serving this community to the best of our
abilities. You should have received an
e-mail this morning with our community service activities coming up. I invite you to pick an event, mark your
calendar and most importantly come out and serve, after all; that's why we are
here!
On another note, we need you to let your employers know that
you are members of the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals. Let them know what we are about, share with
them information about our events, and see if they are interested in sponsoring in what we do. You don't
get anything...if you don't ask.
Although we have a board, it is not exclusively the
responsibility of the board to raise all of the resources for the
organization. If you work for a company
that's looking to sponsor an organization, then I implore you to volunteer MULYP to your companies!
This is "OUR" organization! There is no one greater
than the 'collective', take pride in who we are, what we do, and know that
everything that we do is done by volunteers, not a single person gets paid
from this organization! We are all in this together!
Have a great day, and know that I am here with you.
