ACC President Plans Exit Strategy

Dr. Rodney Allbright agrees to 2-year extension to 2014 to help with the transition

Dr. Rodney Allbright has served as ACC president since 197
During the January 26 Alvin Community College board meeting, regents read a statement that they agreed to a two-year contract extension with Dr. Rodney Allbright.

"The Board looks forward to working with Dr. Allbright on a positive transition plan that will insure a transition in leadership for the College," the statement reads.

Allbright said when he began his tenure as President in 1976, he never envisioned that he would maintain the position for 36 years. Alvin Community College being selected in the top 10 percent of community colleges in the United States is one of many things Allbright said he is proud to have been a part of in his time as President.

"Being in the top ten percent of colleges in the United States is due to the faculty and staff, and I am fortunate to be a part of the group that has worked together to achieve that status," he said.

Board members said they were glad to have had Dr. Allbright as president and thanked him for his time at ACC.

"We do appreciate all of the service you've given to the college," said Board member Doyle Swindell.

ACC Performs Well in Audit
Firm states ACC staff does excellent job managing finances
An accounting firm told the Alvin Community College Board of Regents that the ACC staff did well managing the college's finances during the 2010-11 fiscal year.

The board hired the firm Belt, Harris and Pechacek to perform an annual audit of ACC's accounting practices.

"This is the highest level of assurance we can provide as your independent auditor that the financial statements are materially correct," said auditor Stephanie Harris.

ACC has $43.4 million in total assets and $6 million in liabilities. The net asset balance for ACC is $20.3 million. The totals are as of August 31, 2011. ACC had a $474,000 decrease in asset value but that is less than the $600,000 decrease from the 2010 fiscal year.

Board members also approved a new Health Science program that would certify students to do Intraoperative Monitoring.

Intraoperative monitors track patients' nervous systems during spinal surgeries and cranial procedures.

Regents also decided during the meeting to delay review of a tax abatement policy regarding an industrial project along Chocolate Bayou.

The board will have their next meeting at 7 p.m. on February
23 at the ACC Nolan Ryan Center.
