Contact Funding Year Begins
Student, Contact Hour Totals Will Help Determine State Funding |
Beginning with the mini-semester on March 4, the number of students who enroll and the credit hours they take at ACC through the end of the census date next spring will play a major role in determining the amount of state funding the college will receive for the 2011-2013 school years. Every two years, the college is required to report these figures in order to qualify for the funding. Though faculty and staff at ACC want to see more students enroll each year simply because of the benefits of education, the need to keep enrollment high this year is particularly important.

College Preparing for SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation
10-Year Requirement Essential for ACC |
Texas community colleges are required to submit an application for "reaffirmation of accreditation" every 10 years. ACC faculty and staff are preparing for the process now, which is due March 2011. The application consists of a detailed self-study of all programs, services and actions associated with the college, which must meet numerous objectives outlined by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiative. Representatives from SACS also perform an on-site review to interview board members, faculty, staff and students to determine compliance, focusing especially on the QEP. Following the on-site visit in the fall of 2011, the SACS Commission on Colleges will review the reports and then make a final decision in June 2012.
| Manvel EMS Donates Ambulance to EMT Program
Donation to be Valuable Tool for Student Training |
Due to a recent donation of an ambulance to the college by Manvel EMS, students of the ACC EMT program will have a new valuable training tool to increase their employability and improve their skills. The generous donation will also help reduce the amount of EMS orientation time necessary for area EMS agencies that want to hire them to work in their agency. In the photo, Manvel EMS Director David Ferguson (left) and Assistant Director Cooper Lumsden (right) are shown presenting the ambulance to ACC EMT Department Chair Doug Stevenson on March 24.
