OWL Co-sponsors Event on Loved Ones Facing Aging with Altarum

The Last Word: Caregiving in the New Era
The world is new every day.
What we thought we knew, we don't know;
'cause the world is constantly changing.
The world is new every day.
The world into which we were born
Will not be the world when we die,
'cause the world is constantly changing....
Our children must learn to live in a world that none of us can imagine.
How we do things today, will constantly change and tomorrow, will be antiquated.
Change happens faster than ever before. We cannot slow it, or stop it....
To make change in the world, we need to change ourselves.
When we're done, the world will be different.

Bobbie Brinegar, Executive Director and Margaret Huyck, Board President attended a symposium co-sponsored by OWL with influential women discussing what matters when loved ones face aging. They attended an event at the Kennedy Center and heard this poem by Ysaye Barnwell set to music, sung by Ysaye accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra.

One major theme of the event: Guilt is the familiar feeling, as the women on this panel, and women in many other gatherings, articulate their sense of helplessness and despair in managing long, complex years of providing care to dwindling loved ones. We hold in our hearts the images of the thoughtful care provided to grandmothers and great-grandmothers; we wonder why we cannot do as well.

Online Exhibit: Daring Dames

National Women's History Museum announced the launch of its latest online exhibit, "Daring Dames: A Photographic Exhibit." The rare and inspiring photographs in this exhibition depict women, in many eras, who have demonstrated curiosity about the larger world and remarkable resourcefulness in their ability to navigate in it. These adventurous women have, through their daring, transformed the notion of female identity and the popular perception of acceptable female roles
