Thou art my child, my parent, and my elder, I love thee best, But could not love thee half as much, Loved I not all the rest.

From Margaret Hellie Huyck, OWL's Board President:
Dear OWL members, supporters & friends:
OWL - The Voice of Midlife and Older Women is getting ready to launch our annual Mother's Day Campaign - this year focused on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 provisions that affect the lives of 74 million women over the age of 40. As most of us realize, "mothering" - assuming responsibility for the unpaid care of family members - is one of the important reasons that women continue to lag behind men in economic security. We honor all our mothers every year with the Mother's Day celebration, but within OWL by highlighting one of the important issues that differentially affect midlife and older women.
HONOR OUR MOTHERS by contributing to this campaign to educate everyone about why and how the health reforms are crucial. Connect to www.owl-national.org and just click on the Donate Now button! Or mail your contribution to our new address:
1025 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 701
Washington, DC 20036
You can participate in this very important advocacy effort. SAVE THE DATE: We will have an event on Capitol Hill, on May 5, to introduce the report.
Please join us in honoring our mothers by contributing now.
Margaret Hellie Huyck, Ph.D.
President, OWL National Board

Recently Released Pensions at a Glance Reveals Pension Data Throughout the World
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently released a new edition of their book Pensions at a Glance. Some of the book's findings include: - Many countries have increased pension ages in the face of population aging and longer lives.
- Some countries have introduced an automatic link between pensions and life expectancy.
- Improvements to the incentives to work rather than retire are also a common part of recent pension-reform packages. However, ensuring that there are enough jobs for older workers remains a challenge.
The book also reveals how the US stacks up to other countries in terms of pensions and net replacement rate (NRR). The US still ranks very low among OECD countries in its net replacement rate from public pensions: 50.0% for the average earner, compared with 68.8% for the OECD countries. Only 6 out of 34 OECD countries had lower NRRs: Mexico, Ireland, Japan, Great Britain, New Zealand and Korea. The book is available for sale by OECD but portions can also be found online:
