NEWS YOU NEED TO KNOW

MARCH, 2012

Well, it is ALMOST spring, but not quite...  It is ALMOST time to start spring planting.  It is ALMOST time to start spring cleaning.  It is ALMOST time to add a screen or two to south-facing windows.  It is ALMOST time to wear the flowery prints and thin-fabricked clothes we've shoved to the backs of our closets.  ALMOST ... but not quite!

All of the ALMOST's in our lives make us very ready for a NOW event ... Enter Springfest 2012!  Come to McCarthy's Sports Bar and Restaurant on March 24 from 6-8PM -- catch up with friends, enjoy a complimentary light buffet, bid on lovely baskets.  Proceeds benefit The Arc of Aurora's advocacy efforts, efforts you probably take advantage of at some point throughout the year.  Fun and functional -- not ALMOST, but for sure!  Additional information about Springfest 2012 appears in this issue's Hot Topic below.

See you there!  Oh - and happy ALMOST Spring!  Jean

Hot Topic:  Springfest 2012
Late winter often means we are just itching to get OUT:  out of our winter rut of shoveling and adjusting our lights' timers, outdoors, out with friends.  The Arc of Aurora's March 24 Springfest offers us those opportunities.  Enjoy a complimentary light buffet, happy hour drink prices, ample space to mingle and socialize, friends and acquaintances you may not have seen during winter hibernation, and a plethora of baskets on which to bid for purchase.  Through the generous support of owner Tim McCarthy, McCarthy's Sports' Bar and Restaurant is hosting The Arc of Aurora members and friends from 6-8PM for Springfest 2012, a festive, fun evening whose proceeds benefit The Arc of Aurora.

Thoughtfully assembled and beautifully decorated baskets for Easter, back-to-school, wine supply upgrades, game and movie nights, kitchen supply upgrades, a Disney on Ice outing, golf, home decorating, liquor cabinet contents' upgrades, and more will be available for silent bidding.  Many of the baskets also include restaurant and merchandiser gift cards.  This year we are adding a Break a Balloon to Win! event:  helium balloons, each with a food/beverage gift card inside, will be available for purchase.  You can buy, break and win, thereby adding some noisy fun to the evening.

Bring your friends and family and enjoy a relaxing, fun evening out.  All are welcome to join the fun!  McCarthy's, 15350 E. Smoky Hill Road, is located on the southeast corner of Chambers and Smoky Hill Road in southeast Aurora.  Silent auction check out begins shortly after the auction closes at 8PM so that we are all cleaned up and able to, if we choose to stay, enjoy the rock and roll band, The Revolution, that begins playing fun dance music at 9PM.

Questions on baskets or anything related to Springfest may be directed to Jean in the office, jsarcaurora@aol.com or 720.213.1420.  Cash, checks, and MasterCard and Visa are accepted for basket payment.

March is officially Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month thanks to a 1987 proclamation from President Ronald Reagan in response to the advocacy efforts of The Arc. A lot has happened in the nearly quarter of a century since this proclamation. Awareness of and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) has swayed back and forth depending on public opinion and current events. Your membership with The Arc of Aurora supports all efforts -- local, statewide, and national -- to help improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities.  Thank you!
