Creation Care Quote

"wish you could come here and rest a year in the simple unmingled love-fountains of God. You would return with fresh truth gathered and absorbed from pines and waterfalls and deep-singing winds, and you would find that they all sang of fountain love just as did Jesus Christ."

A Message from the Executive Director

Dear Blessed Earth friends and family,

Happy August to you!  It's the season when many of us take time out to vacation, rest, and renew our relationships with family and friends. Summer can also be a joyful time to get outdoors and renew our relationship with God's glorious creation.

One of my favorite childhood memories took place on the first day of summer vacation after fourth grade.  I rambled through fields, followed a stream, and watched clouds pass by overhead, hour after hour.  To get the full story of how my "punishment" for a less-than-stellar school year turned into a grace-filled opportunity for rest and renewal, click on the image above.

Much unhappiness today can be traced to separation--separation from nature, separation from loved ones, separation from God.  Often, we try to fill these voids by buying things we don't need and consuming entertainment that is not healthy for our souls.

My prayer is that this summer, you make time to slow down and reconnect--while on vacation and through a weekly holiday (holy day), the Sabbath.  This month, may you discover anew the Creator's gift of rest.

Your brother in Christ,

 Matthew Sleeth, MD
