Dear Blessed Earth friends and family,
Late spring is a season of celebrations, a time for honoring beginnings and endings. Graduation ceremonies--from elementary school to graduate school--mark the end of important cycles of education. Weddings announce the beginning of new life together as a married couple. And anniversaries, Mother's Day, and Father's Day all help us remember the roles we hold most dear.
As a family, we too are experiencing this cycle. A few weeks ago, our son, Clark, graduated from medical school. Thirty-one years ago, on May 31, Nancy and I were married. And today, June 4, we are celebrating the day Nancy first entered the world--her birthday.
At work, I am (thankfully!) marking an event that is both an ending and a beginning. In recent days, I have finished the final edits on my new book, 24/6. The only thing left to be done is the Foreword, which I am delighted to say that Eugene Peterson is writing.
While my writing for this book has come to an end, fresh opportunities to share the good news of Sabbath rest with audiences around the country is just beginning. Already we are lining up events for November and beyond to teach and preach the importance of rest--for us, for our neighbors, and for the planet.
In this time of anniversaries, graduations, and transitions, I want to congratulate you on all that you are beginning or finishing. May God bless you as you remember His promise "that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)
