Rock Hop - The Hopscotch Music Festival 2012 - September 6 - 8
Hopscotch? No, not the old-school recess game (like dodge ball). It's the hottest, multiple-act music festival (September 6-8) to annually hit the Triangle. Patterned after the hugely successful South By Southwest in Austin, TX, the Hopscotch Music Festival features 170 bands in 15 venues over three days with just about every genre imaginable - rock, hip-hop, alt-country, heavy metal, dance, punk, classical, indie & garage rock, noise, drone, folk and more. All this is happening within a hop, skip, and a jump from one another. Band Listing.
Hopscotch Music Festival is located entirely in downtown Raleigh, meaning all 15 venues are encompassed within a mere 8 block area. The 14 participating club venues include: The Berkeley Cafe, Deep South the Bar, Fletcher Opera Hall, Five Star, The Hive at Busy Bee, Kings Barcade, Lincoln Theatre, The Pour House, White Collar Crime, Slim's, Memorial Auditorium, Tir Na Nog, and newcomers Long View Center and CAM. City Plaza is the 15th venue and it heats up on Friday and Saturday nights with headline acts. Organizers are selling wristbands (All-Show - $110; 1-Day Passes - $55 Thurs. / $75 Fri & Sat; City Plaza Friday $34 and City Plaza Saturday $34). Click Here for Tickets.
Active Listening: With this much talent in this many clubs, how can one be in 15 places simultaneously so as to not miss an exciting performance? That is a problem (unless you are Superman and can reverse the earth's orbit). However, consider it a "good problem" because all you active listeners will have tons of stuff happening with plenty of good options. Perhaps you should split your posse and text reviews back and forth ... no rules say that you have to stay for the entire set. Hopscotch Schedule.
City Plaza Acts: Of course the headliners always get center stage. On Friday rock legends The Jesus and Mary Chain and Built to Spill take the stage with Zammuto. The Saturday lineup is equally charged with the Philadelphia hip-hop legends and recent late-night TV stars The Roots. Also highlighting are the big-band disco crew Escort and locals Shirlette & The Dynamite Brothers. Be there or be square.

Hidden Talents - Interior Designers Doing More than Decorating
Creative people are said to use the right side of their brains more than the left. We're introducing you to two Interior Designers who continue to obsess over new ways to be creative that put left brain people just yearning for some of their hidden talents.
Not only does Keith Lloyd of Keith Lloyd Design create beautiful commercial and residential spaces, he also designs one of a kind, custom made door wreaths and table top arrangements. Keith stays on a strict work schedule to stay organized in producing seasonal creations. He has two retail ready seasons; Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Fall products will be in local stores by Sept. 1st. Holiday designs will be in local stores by November 1st. He works on interior design projects from February through August and holiday floral designs from September through January.
Keith takes a lot of his color direction from New York Fashion Week. Women's Apparel runway shows are always a clue to upcoming colors, styles and texture combinations that will trickle down to not only interior design colors and fabrics but also into holiday ornament and ribbon colors and styles. He strives for his designs, whether they be interior or floral, to be stylish, sophisticated and with a sense of imagination. By that, he's been awarded in past Parade of Homes for his design work Gold and Silver awards.
You can shop Keith's beautiful creations at Lydia's Gifts and More located at Six Forks Station Shopping Center and at Batista Interiors located in Shops of Baileywick at Harvest Plaza Shopping Center in North Raleigh. He will also be showing his holiday lines at the Junior League of Raleigh's "A Shopping Spree" on October 25 − 28 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money. We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
